Native Access 2 is a hot mess

It just took me a full 28 hours to install my brand new Komplete 15 Collectors Edition, and there are still outstanding issues. I cannot install 2 updates do to the updates failing to start (Enqueing forever, then 'Installer Service' error). Native Access v1 does not even show the updates as available. I am on an operating system that has been out for well over a year (1 year, 3 months).

I also own full product collections by Arturia, Universal Audio, Softube, and IK Multimedia, all of which have product managers that just work. Why is it so hard for NI to make an installer that just does what it's supposed to do for an operating system that has been out for so long? I understand NI is still updating their collections to support external drives…in an age when computers are sold with internal drives that cannot even hold this collection without being completely full, let alone fitting anything else on them. External drive support should be job number 1! I'm extremely frustrated by this, considering this software costs over $1000, or over $600 if you get it on Black Friday. Can someone please explain to me why NI is so far behind on their installers?

First off, libraries that run under Native Access 1 are of a different format than those that run under Native Access 2 which are cross compatible with formats across multiple plugin vendors. But I'm assuming your collectors edition are libraries meant to be loaded under Native Access 2 but it should tell you that in the minimum requirements section of each library.

As far as external drives that's not been a problem since I've been using Native Acess. I have over 6TB of libraries spread across multiple SSDs and work perfectly and have for years.

Correct. Native Access 2 is not working for these updates, and the manual installs from the website are from 2019, older versions.

I actually have both of those libraries working just fine in my Native Access ver 3.21.1. I'm on Windows 10 but that shouldn't make a difference. You might want to check available disk storage although those two aren't terribly demanding but I guess you could be running short of work space for the downloading.

The only other difference is I purchased and downloaded them separately, not in a Package like you did.

Out of curiosity have you tried changing the Preferences→File Management→Content Location to a different drive maybe with more storage available? That's what will be used for the download/install of the library.

OS X is a bit dodgy with external drives at the moment. There's a longstanding bug with drive mountpaths getting renamed (the operating system's fault, not Native Access), and now an issue with Native Access and the latest OS X that they're working on

Aside, is it just me, or is 28 hours not a bad time for over 1TB of installs?

Please try uninstalling these 2 libraries with the uninstall feature of Native Access, then try to install them from scratch again.

I did try that, yes. Those two just hang on "Starting", and then error out with "Installer Service" error.

If the issue is the operating system's fault, then why do my Arturia, IK Multimedia, etc. install onto external drives with absolutely no issues? Just sayin'…

Because of how installers work on Mac Os. Different companies have different ways of installing things.

And to be straight - NI is the leading plugin developer with Kontakt - it's installed on more devices than any other manufacturer. Yes, things could sometimes be better, but I've seen a lot of positive progress from NI recently. The size of the Mac Os install base means they're unlikely to have to wait long to get things moving.

That particular issue I'm referring to, OS X fails to notice it's the same drive connected and sticks a 1 at the end of the mount path. That's definitely Apple's fault.

Other issues aren't (well except for the fact they keep introducing changes in updates that weren't in the betas…)

Did NI remove the option to set up a custom directory for VST2 plugin installations in Native Access 2? I could have sworn that it's in there, yet I installed Absynth 5 today, and it just installed in some random path I don't use (Program Files/Vstplugins). Meh. ☹️
