Playback stops when headphones are removed from audio interface

I'm running Traktor Pro 3.11.1 17 with a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 3rd gen. When I load a track into either deck an press play, playback proceeds as normal. However, If I remove my headphone from the headphone port on the front of the 4i4. Playback stops and then waveform on the deck ceases to scroll. What is going on? How can I avoid this?

    Did it never happen before?

That is a behavior I already heard about some laptop internal soundcards, but seems strange for a program like Traktor

Indeed it is strange for Traktor to do that. What audio driver do you use?

I'm using a MacBook Pro with Sonoma 14.5.

    Focusrite is running on:
    Focusrite Control 3.15.0.172

I didn't notice this start to happen until after I upgraded to Traktor Pro 3. To make matters worse, it only happens some of the time and I've been unable to isolate what conditions lead to it. It never used to happen with the previous version of the hardware.
