Is there a chance Maschine 3.0 will run in MAC OS 12?

I was bummed to read Mac OS 13 or higher is needed for 3.0.

has anyone tried if it will still run in lower OS?

I hate that apple stopped supporting the Mac Pro ‘trash can’ with OS updates after Monterey…

With such a big gap in generations there's no chance it will work or that NI will change their minds.

Just google "OpenCore" bro, it's not that hard to install modern MacOS on older Mac's, theres tons of step-by-step guides; just backup everything before you try…. The Trash can is super old and beaten by a modern 600$ mac mini but it's still capable enough to run Sonoma or Sequoia.

Now, you can trash the trash can into the trash can.

Apple permanently retired OS12 on Sept 16.

That means no vendor can reach out to Apple for any system support whatsoever - especially if that vendor hits a snag trying to get a new product (like Maschine 3) to behave on an old OS.

If Apple won't support NI for OS12 - why would NI support OS12?

It has been this way - since - forever.

forgive me if I’m not clear, sometimes software will still ‘work’ fine in older version even though the specs demand newer versions.

I’m curious if it will function or if it’s a case of not even being installable

I guess you won’t even receive it in NA.

Why so sassy? I’ve had Macs since OS 9, believe it or not my question isn’t weird at all.

but thanks for your input I guess…

Whether it functions or not is a matter of first getting it. Then getting it installed.

It was clearly never tested by NI under that OS. Could you install it? Maybe? Would it run? Who knows.

The bigger question for you would be- if you somehow overcome these barriers just to find out it blows up on you - what will you do?

Yeah… Tbh, its 0.1% chance of working, Im pretty sure as soon as you launch the v3 app it will complain it can't run but if you want to try…. Do it, since MAS3 is separate from MAS2 it shouldn't break anything… Install on a modern mac, copy over all files and pray, I guess… but the sensible thing would be to update your OS.

Here, if you want to try, this is all you need to copy over:

great to hear that is finally here, though i will perhaps wait a few months on it, waiting for the next gen of the studio in early 2025, as i am in the OS 12 camp still due to a fussy Boss/roland driver that is more essential to my setup, it is for a GT1000core that i use for pretty much just for audio routing and EQ, it has an external i/o effects bus and internal usb-insturment-headphone mixing, that i use in my solo rehearsals - it is one of the situations where if it works you do not mess with it.. think flow chart when it stops working: "did you %^&* with it?". generally i only upgrade my OS within 3 versions from the original OS that came on the computer, i buy a new computer instead to run the new OS to keep the hardware up to date, i am still using the first ARM mac mini that replaced my intel Mac Pro, which runs with no issues for audio even using complex waves plug-ins, though some plug-ins run within an instrument plugin can easily overload it… so i am due for a hardware update.. 3 - 5 years.. . looking forward to maschine 3 and driving the new mac in the spring… until then i will have to remain full of virtue, you know, that thing called patience.

if you are on OS 12 and want to upgrade/update to the latest, OS 15, then i suggest you wait until you get the green light for all the software you run as this just came out 1.5 months ago and may have some bugs or incompatibilities still. you can still get OS 13 and 14 via direct installers by way of developer downloads or bringing your mac into an apple store and asking them to install it for you.

in case it does not work…

while i do not advocate doing this and do not expect any NI support if you do, here is a theory for the determined ones: one can during the installation of the app, maschine 3, save the file by "locking" it (file info) or duplicating the file so it renames - you can lock it before it finishes downloading in case it gives an error message about your system and then self-deletes (though it will still be in the invisible temp directory for a short while). with this done, you can then go into the installer file and change the string that states the system requirements - this will allow it to install. next, after it installs, do the same in the app maschine 3. i used to use this method back in the days of OS 10.6 because OS 10.7 and OS 10.8 were terrible and i needed to use OS 9 plug-ins and apps still. if you are really feeling brave, you can do the same to the OS system by changing the system info, this used to be easy but apple has made it more difficult recently - this can render your OS useless and a recovery install may be needed so i will not go into the method at all here.

You can indeed save the installer and edit the OS version check on it, or even manually extract the contents but… the app itself usually also has a version check.

The app. version 2, did have a version check "gatekeeper" on it which can as well be changed in the strings, but that as well has to be changed in every update unless one writes a script for it. not sure of the new 3 and what that is in the app as often the official supported specs and the OS version check are slightly different.

with the advent of the cost effective mac mini, and one can even use them as an OS update test machine, dedicated kontakt or reactor synth/samplers, it simply easier to just pick up a spare one, or even that vintage mac pro bathroom trash can, and put the latest os on that while still having the version OS 12 one that some are still using. that is what i plan on doing when i upgrade the processing hardware - those mac minis are very effective on space as well, they stack easily for the same profile. my reason for not upgrading the OS is that it is a bit of a pain to re-install an OS to run an earlier version, and i have no need for the new features of the latest OS's.

i am hoping to hear about a new maschine plus soon… one that i hope uses the eventide hardware model of using upgradable ARM processor cards… it would be nice to go totally standalone and be able to say run waves, eventide, and other third party plugins on it… that or add an extended i/o bus via a multi-pin breakout cable, or ethernet for dante, for effect sends and returns. having an arm processor and an ethernet port would be simply wonderful and i would pick one up the first minute they were available..

I don't think editing compiled code, messing with Hex editors and/or general reverse engineering is in the realm of knowledge of the average Joe, it's not even a skill techy savy people tend to have… Musicians dont tend to be techy at all as far as computers go.

Buying an extra Mac just to test things also sounds very farfetched when one can't afford to get one modern one.
