Traktor pro 3 doesn't recognize Kontrol S3 (Win 11)
Hi,
I was using Traktor pro 3 for fun for some time and now decided to go the next step and bought the Kontrol S3 but I can't get Traktor to recognize it as input.
What I did and the current status:
- I added the hardware in Native Access (the serial number)
- At no point I was asked to install any drivers but Windows 11 detects the hardware in the device settings, it doesn't show the hardware in NA, but I don't know if it should.
- I tried several USB ports on my PC
- I tried to update the firmware, the tool detects the S3 but says I have the latest firmware installed
- I tried to add it manually in Traktor but it would show the device port as "none" which doesn't seem right to me and I would have to configure every mapping manually which wouldn't make sense I guess
- I tried to reinstall every NI software from scratch (uninstalling everything before, even using the NI removal tool) (but it still kept a lot of settings from the last installation so it didn't really wipe all data)
- I suspect it might be an issue with "NIHostIntegrationAgent" since that service is nowhere to be found on my PC and I hoped a full reinstall would add it but it didn't. I'm also not sure if I really need it for the S3 and Windows 11.
- The other thing I'm uncertain about sounds stupid but I really don't know if I have to turn this thing on and if so how. When I connect the power supply every light "boots up" and then the only light that keeps burning is the small white at Mic D.
The strange thing is, it only does that while I'm NOT connected with USB to my PC. If I power it on while being connected it won't light everything up, neither would it do that without the external power supply.
Also the white light still burns when I'm only connected to the PC via USB.
I'm just not sure if it might be a hardware issue at this point.
Also the S3 should have come with a Traktor license but I didn't receive that afaik. I didn't need it because I already had Traktor, but I'm not sure if the hardware might be bound to the software license? Or do I have to remove the old license and the hardware serial automatically ads the software?
Ideas?
Any information on how it should work could already help, because I'm not really sure what to expect.
Thanks!

After some more investigation:
I realized the S3 can be used without external power supply, so the lighting up does work when only being connected with USB and no Power supply, I think I just mixed that up when I already had it connected to the power and then connected USB it wouldn't light up, but that makes sense.
I thought perhaps I have to set up the S3 as sound output as well in Traktor so that I can add it as controller. The sound device selection shows me the S3 as WASAPI shared and exclusive mode, so Traktor finds the hardware in general.
That made me think that it just doesn't find the controller part of the S3 so I looked again in the windows device settings and saw that the "Traktor Kontrol S3 DFU" is shown but when I check the history it actually shows an error message that it couldn't start the device: (sorry for German)

So this might be the reason for my problems and I located the driver
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\niks3dfu.inf_amd64_f703b4543b0fea82 (I have an Intel CPU…) but I still wouldn't know how to solve it. Updating or reinstalling the driver doesn't help.0

Why the hell can't I edit my post…
Because it was partially stupid. I didn't pay attention to the timestamp of the error message. It was actually an old message from the first time I was messing around with the hardware and after reinstalling the drivers it seems to work fine in the device manager. It just didn't update the error log so I thought it is still an effective issue… but that brings me back to the only idea I have now: The "NIHostIntegrationAgent" is not available on my system.0
