Is there some way to choose the particular attribute to be tweaked by the smart strip after pressing the MOD button on Maschine Plus? Seems like it ought to be as easy as setting a Macro.

And same question on the Maschine MK3 and Mikro MK3?

Finally, is there still no way to adjust the assignment/function for the smart strip on KK S-series keyboards?

No, very different from a Macro.

MOD controls the standard MIDI Modwheel parameter, it's not up to the device/host sending that data to tell the instrument what to do with it. So, you have to set it up in the instrument itself, say it's a Sampler just go here:

Usually quality presets have it already setup controlling whatever the sound designer intended as what makes sense.

If it's a Synth, Kontakt instrument, etc.. then you're out of luck on a M+ in standalone mode and will have to change the Modwheell settings in the instrument thru the software version and save that preset then put it in the M+ SD card... Unless the instrument has pre-mapped parameters that give you access to mod wheel settings, Monark for example does (not sure how extensive it is tho):

So, in case of an MK3/Mikro or any other controller just open the instrument GUI window you're using and set it up there or use the pre-mapped knobs if it applies.

KKS Touch Strip sends CC11 (Expression) so you can also do the same as for the MOD and configure the CC inside the instrument. If there's a way to customize the CC it should be in KK SW MIDI section maybe? Not sure I dont own a KKS with a smart touch strip anymore. Configuring it on an M+ is definitely not a thing regardless.
