Maschine MK I with M1 Macbook Air

Because Windows has much better retro-compatibility than MacOS, so requires less or no more extra work from devs.

15 year old hardware that needs drivers and very modern Mac’s is a terrible combination.

in OPs case of the driver failing to install I’d try to force it by opening the installer with an app called Suspicious Package and manually put the files in the propper place. I’m at home atm to give more detailed instructions.

No need, just mount the Maschine_Controller_280_Mac_p.dmg and open the .pkg inside with Suspicious Package, you can then drag and drop the drivers, here I put them in a temp folder first.

Now move them to their expected locations.

• YourHD_Name/Library/Extensions/NIUSBMaschineController.kext
• YourHD_Name/Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers/NIUSBMaschineControllerMIDIDriver.plugin

NOTE 1: not sure if the MIDI Driver plug is needed or not but it won't hurt to copy anyway.

NOTE 2: Mac has 2 library folders, make sure the path is /Library/Extensions/ and NOT Users/Your_Name/Library/Extensions/. Library folders are hidden by default on MacOS so do a quick google to make them permanently visible or just navigate to the proper folder by using the shortcut CMD+SHIFT+G while a finder window is focused and type "/Library/Extensions/" for example.

If you get any notifications about permissions make sure to allow access.

Now follow the instructions by curious_prism, for the terminal commands he lists you will need to put the word "sudo" before to have perms to execute them. The first command has a comma at the end (;) I don't think that is supposed to be there. So...

• open Terminal.app, then type: sudo cp -a "/Library/Extensions/NIUSBMaschineController.kext/Contents/MacOS/NIUSBMaschineController" "/Library/Extensions/"
• and sudo cp -a "/Library/Extensions/NIUSBMaschineController.kext/Contents/MacOS/Info.plist" "/Library/Preferences/com.native-instruments.Maschine Controller.plist"

Reboot and do check again in the prefs for permissions needing access:

• Authorise any pending Native Instruments dialogs: System Settings > Privacy & Security (scroll down, anything pending should be just above the FileVault panel near the bottom of this page). For me this was NTKDaemon
• Manually authorise NIUSBMaschineController: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility > + (bottom left; requires admin password) > (cmd + shift + G) /Library/Extensions/ > select NIUSBMaschineController (NIUSBTraktorKontrolS4 in my case)
• Ensure that NIUSBMaschineController (NIUSBTraktorKontrolS4 in my case) is now enabled in the Accessibility applications list
• Restart
• Open latest version of Maschine 2 / Traktor Pro 3
• Plug in hardware
• Everything works normally (including mapping of all buttons)

Again, not sure if it works or not as I don't have an MK1 but regardless credit goes to CuriousPrism.

If this is confirmed working I'll just zip all the modified files to make it easy for people.

Well it was worth a try, I seems the driver/executable is really intel only.

TBH I'd just sell that Mk1 for 25$ and add 30$ more and just buy a used MK2, they're aren't worth more than 70$ tops...
