Maschine plus microphone - Not crystal Clear sound

Hello ,

I tried the following:

  1. Connecting a mic directly to the Maschine plus
  2. Connect microphone to external interface and then to Maschine plus.

In both I get minimal distortion. A bit As I’d the signal was saturated.

I tried lowering volumes and adjusting mic levels but the audio never comes out crystal clear. I connect it to my speaker system directly and sound great. Not sure where the issue is but it seems that the audio interface seems a bit cheap? Not sure how to get crystal clear microphone signal.


Any recommendations?

    Thanks everyone, I figured it out and it works well. It was mostly a combination of volumes that made it sound bad.

    What type of microphone are you using?

    I have 2 senheisser 900 series and a Shure SM57

    Yes, both add this small amount of distortion .

    Is basically not clean. So I’m having issues on using it for the microphone .

    It makes the voice sound a bit rough

    What sounds really strange is that your obtaining same results with M+ built-in audio interface and an external one…😶

    The problem may be from simple human errors, such as improper level settings, misaligned microphones, recording too loud, and more. The main cause of distortion in microphones is improper microphone handling techniques such as standing too close to the mic and failure to position the mic well.

    Where are the levels on the mixer when you are recording through the mic? If you stay several DB bellow 0 you shouldn’t have any distortion.

    I use an external audio interface with mic preamps with my Maschine+ whenever i need to connect it to a mic (Maschine+ doesn't have mic preamps)

    Thanks would you guys recommend the komplete audio 6 interface ?

    The one I used is actually rc300 and then I plug it into the Maschine

    I mean where are the levels on Maschine plus mixer view for the channel you’re recording? It should be bellow 0dB.


    There are two points of gain staging when plugging in your mic, the preamp controlled by the knob on the back of M+ and the level fader in the M+ mixer view. If the gain is too high on the back knob you may have analog distortion if the level is too high in mixer you may get digital distortion. IME with SM57 there is barely enough usable gain in the M+ preamp to make the mice useful.


    if you feeding the 1/4 outs of your RC300 to the stereo inputs and they is giving you distortion than the RC300 output may be too high. In that case you have three gain stages. I would put M+ in mixer view, turn the input knob on the back all the way down and feed the RC300 signal into Maschine, gently raise the level with the back knob until you can see a healthy signal in M+ mixer without getting too close to 0dB, if the level is way to hot with the back gain turned all the way down, lower the output of your RC300. Save the final gain stage in the mixer for mixing.
