Can you please help with installing Native Access? I've tried everything.

I tried everything that's suggested but still get this message when I try to install NTKDaemon. And when I try to install Native Access, it tells me install NTKDaemon. I've uninstalled, done a huge clean up of registry, optimized everything to within an inch of it's life, tried it with antivirus and firewall off, but still the same message.

when trying to install NTKDaemon

native access error - Runtime error in install: Error reading LicenseText_ALT.Lines.RichEdit line insertion error

I'm on Windwos 10 with Motherboard: ASRock B550M Pro4

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8 Core Processor, 16 of Threads, 8 x 3.8GHz Base, 8 x 4.7GHz Turbo

I've been on to support for weeks without anything that helps.

If anyone has any idea at all I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot.

Do you try to start installation as admin?

First: what NA? Version one or two? And did you grab it from the official website?

Second.. Windows 10: did you install all mandatory updates yet?

Third: what virus scanners do you use?

See, the thing is: you claim the error comes from installing NTKDaemon but my issue with that comment is: how would you know? All NA2 tells you is that it's "installing dependencies" and there's no mention of what those are. And that error message of yours doesn't reveal any details either.

Making me wonder... how you jumped to those conclusions? As well as how you installed what you did because of the error message. My guess would be that something blocked the installer, and a virus or malware scanner would be an obvious cause.

    Thanks for your reply.

First: Native Access 2 and I did get it from the official website.

Second: I have installed all possible updates to Windows 10, at least all that I could find.

Third: I use Windows defender. I use Iolo System Mechanic for all the protections apart from their antivirus. I turn all these off and the firewall when I'm trying to install NA.

This is how I know the problem is with NTKDaemon -

NI support gave me the latest version of NTKDaemon and I tried installing that first, because that's what they suggested. Still no good, it wouldn't install.

    Thanks for trying to help.

    Hey Charlo,

What happens when you remove your protection settings? Likely the Daemon crashes after install since it might be trying to do something that it can't get by during startup, hence the possible startup problems.

Have you tried installing NA 1? Or do you've got a plugin which needs NA 2?

Thanks. I'll try installing it with the protection on.

I don't know of any libs I have that need NA 2 but I'm sure there's a few that do. I didn't fancy the idea of getting it all sorted and then there's half of the libs need version 2. But I guess I've reached the point of desperation where I will.

    Thanks

I just got one Library which "needs" NA 2 - Ozone 10 Standard. You can still install it from the Download folder, but because there is no License Key shown in NA 1, I had to start NA 2 to activate it correctly.

Everything else could be activated without a problem so far (K14U + some older 3rd Party Instruments).

If you got problems with updating one plugin (old Version can't be removed correctly). Delete it and use the NI RegFix and reinstall. It will install the new Version (happend for me with the new Kontakt 7 Update)

I post it here, if I stumble upon more problems with NA 1 or create a new Thread with different Workarounds, for NA 1/2 and unsupported plugins, if folks are interested in it.

I would really be interested in that, please let me know if you do.

I tried to find NA 1 on the website and couldn't find it. Am I missing something?

    Thanks

So I'm getting the exact same thing with NA 1! The same as the screenshot in my original post. I tried it with and without the protection on. I tried as administrator. Am I down to a clean install of Windows? I ran the NI Support Tool and sent it to them but that was a good few days ago and nothing back.

Hi Charlo, sorry to see you're still experiencing issues. In case you haven't filed a ticket with our support team yet, could you look for a daemon.log file and DM me with it? I'll have my team look at it next week and let you know where the problem occurs and what we can do for you.

Just a headsup, Berlin has a 3 day weekend this week due to Whit Monday, so there's going to be a slight delay in response.

We install two major dependencies: The NTK Daemon, which handles the download and activation stuff, and the NTK Daemon Helper Tool, which assists in granting the permissions that it needs to install things. We have a few other things like a crash dumper that creates daemon.log files when the NTK Daemon crashes, but that's the gist of it. In this case, it truly looks as though the NTK Daemon crashes on startup.
