Thanks for the suggestion anyway!

It doesn't affect the function of KK. I use the same config in all of my DAWs and believe I had to do this to use smart controls in Logic, which confuses me at the best of times. I use Cubase and Ableton mostly. This is the recommended config for Ableton, as per the Komplete Kontrol Mk2 manual.
Configuring Ableton Live for KOMPLETE KONTROL
To add KOMPLETE KONTROL as a control surface in Ableton Live's preferences:
- Ensure that the keyboard is connected and switched on before launching the application.
- Launch Ableton Live.
- In Ableton Live, go to the Preferences and open the Link / MIDI tab.
- In a free control surface slot select Komplete Kontrol SMK2 from the Control Surface drop- down menu.
- For the control surface input select Komplete Kontrol DAW -1 in the Input drop-down menu.
- For the control surface output select Komplete Kontrol DAW -1 in the Output drop-down
- menu.

Transport works fine for me in Logic. Having DAW port selected is not the issue.

For Live, it does say to use the DAW port.... for Control Surface selection. What people should NOT do is then select that same DAW port as a MIDI Input as it is for control signals and not MIDI input signals. I am not 100% sure on how Logic works with the DAW control but the DAW port is not a standard MIDI port, more an MCU control port and same thing with an MCU, if you select it as a MIDI port you can end up with notes/signals being transmitted into your project when you press some buttons.
It is usually the reason people experience things like hearing their synth play sounds when they use transport, random start/stop of the DAW, track navigation either not working or ransomly stopping, no feedback to the keyboard for things like mixer mode, failure to auto-select an instance of KK when switching tracks. These can all happen in Live so I assume issues can also arise in other DAWs so as rule of thumb, just test without that port selected as MIDI input.

By 'Komplete Kontrol keyboard's transport controls crashing with Logic' what do you mean exactly? There was a bug where pressing the shift key caused KK's controls to freeze that was introduced a couple of versions ago but that has been fixed so if it is that I suggest updating KK.

First thing I tried! And they say you have to do it after any Logic or KK update!

Thanks for the suggestion and sorry, I described it badly. When I load Logic, more often than not, the instance light doesn’t come on and controls such as play, loop, stop won’t work. All they do is produce a sound from the instrument track selected. The keyboard display stays on midi template 1 and you can’t swap mode with shift / plug in midi. The plug-in and browser buttons still work properly with KK when it’s loaded on a track. I can sometimes fix it with various combinations of remove and replace cable / remove a61 from midi studio / delete keyboard from Logic and have it reinstall. But things go wrong again quite fast. I’m on the latest iterations of Monterey, KK and Logic, using a Mac Pro M1. Hard drive access / swap out midi device scripts etc all tried!

Ok thanks. tbh I had huge problems getting the transport stuff working with Logic myself when I first got my S series keyboard but for me at least those problems were fixed a fair while ago and I find it just works now so sorry you are going through this. Hope support get in touch soon, sounds like they need to troubleshoot what is going on on your system. Maybe it's even a hardware fault?

Reading this..the problem should be exactly that the keyboard goes automatically in midi mode. And this mode sends for some buttons midi notes messages (which will of course play notes from the instruments).
Have you tried to build a template in Controller Editor telling exactly what kind of messages every button must send? You shouldn’t have to do this, but at least you will be able to use your keyboard.
You build your Own template, select it when the keyboard goes in midi mode and at least like this you know EXACTLY what the buttons send, because it is what YOU chose

Yeah but the transport controls shouldn't be sending midi notes - the interface between KK and Logic for the full integration (which goes beyond just standard midi) uses OSC not midi as its protocol (even though you still need to press the MIDI button to switch between 'MIDI' mode and plugin mode). I did have this problem for a while back when KK was new but they were teething issues for me and resolved in various updates.

I’m just trying to remember if the latest update broke it! Glad to hear you got past the issues. It’s fantastic when it all works!

Hi!
It’s been at the back of my mind that I could build my own template. If all else fails, I’ll jump on to the University of YouTube and learn how to do it 😀

Btw, when I follow that article, it says this…
- Start Finder and open the following location:
- Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > MIDI Device Plug-Ins
- Delete these files from the MIDI Device Plug-Ins folder:
- - KOMPLETE KONTROL A-Series.bundle
- - KOMPLETE KONTROL S-Series.bundle
- - MASCHINE MK3.bundle
On my machine that folder is empty! Weird, eh?
