Komplete Kontrol transport controls crashing. No support received
I've been having a problem with my Komplete Kontrol keyboard's transport controls crashing with Logic. I did all the published fixes (disk access, deleting files in app support etc), but the problem persists.
So I put in a support request ten days ago, supplying the systems snapshot as requested via the diagnostics tool. And that's the last I heard.
I'm interested to know, is this the typical experience I can expect from this company? The products aren't cheap. I'm pretty disappointed with them so far.

No.

Well, that’s reassuring, I guess.

The occasions I contacted them, it didn't take more than a few days. Might just be a busy time at the moment, I don't know.

The products are brilliant, including the keyboard, apart from this one annoying glitch.

So I am not a Logic user, forgive me if this is the wrong steer but worth at least covering.
If you have issues with the transport controls crashing Logic have you checked if you may have selected the DAW port as a midi input in the midi prefs of Logic? The DAW port is not a MIDI port and in other applications selecting it for MIDI input can cause issues when you use any of the DAW functions of the keyboard. Maybe poost the MIDI prefs.
If it aint that, at least it's something else crossed off the list of possibilities...

Thanks for the suggestion, Jester. I’ll check that this morning.

Hi,
I tried your suggestion. DAW was selected under inputs. I got rid of it and track instance / transport controls then worked. It did fail on a subsequent reopening of Logic, but if I toggle the DAW input on and off, it seems to work when I restart Logic.
Maybe another piece in the puzzle and I’m very grateful for your help.

Sad but true. I find only a select few companies that do any more than read off a basic troubleshooting sheet. Anything outside of that remit and you're stuck.
With this in mind, I have come to rely on my own knowledge and/or that of the user community who have a lot more insight and experience in such issues. Possibly not the answer you are looking for, but may help you save time.
As a general rule I don't ask the NI team for any advice in regard to bugs etc., but have solved many an issue exploring user threads. Now of course I can only speak from my own experience, but I have no real examples to disprove my theory.
I hope you get this sorted as I imagine it is a relatively trivial fix to do with settings etc., as I have had similar config issues in the past with Cubase and Logic.
All the best in your quest. :D

Also if it is any help, here is a screenshot of my midi input config for logic. Using S49 mkII.

Hi Diam,
Thank-you very much for the screenshot. My set up looks the same regarding Komplete Kontrol. I'm like you. I try to solve things myself or ask people on forums. With this one I haven't had a lot of luck, other than finding other people with the same issue. Funnily enough, support has just emailed finally with one suggestion I've already tried and another one I'm about to (deletecom.apple.logic.pro.cs)
TBH, I've probably got a bit spoilt with the amazing support Apple offers its customers, but then I regard NI as a premium brand and I think they should be standing behind their products properly. Still, hopefully they're available now.
All the best and thanks again.

Hi Pete.
No problemo.

I don't use Logic, so I can't help with the issue itself. As for the remark about the NI support, it could take up to a week before you get any reply, based on personal experience. Not ideal, but don't be too alarmed if you don't get a reply within 24 or 48hrs.

Daw port should not be set as a midi input

Hi Jester,
How are you? I deselected DAW, but the problem goes on. Hoping support will come up with something!

Yeah was just a hunch on that since I have seen issues arise in other applications when the DAW port is selected because it is a data port for the transport and browse buttons which can then throw rogue signals into the MIDI input when you press any buttons. At least it rules that out as an issue, I don't have much else to really suggest for this one i'm afraid, hopefully support has some clues.
