GUI design: adventures in Blender.

Hi everyone!

I've started experimenting with Blender. I'm trying to rebuild a 2D design i made into 3D. The process is already well underway because i waited for the new forum to launch before starting a thread.

The "original":

Some working shots of the 3D version (work in progress, obviously):

The idea is to, when everything is built up, render each panel element separately so that what you will see in Reaktor is a top view like this, with all the controls in perspective view.

Like so:

Still plenty of work to do on this before i can start to try rendering and compositing, but so far it's going pretty good.

I don't have many details right now, and i'm learning as i go, but more later.
Feel free to ask me anything.

Greets,
Peter

Peter, that looks very good. I want to touch with my fingers in the screen.

    Thanks Paule and Big Gnome!

Current status: starting to experiment with creating translucent materials.

I will need this process for both the "ON" button and the "RND" (randomizer) push buttons.

My hope is that i can make them look something like the ones Moog uses on synths like the Minitaur.

    Peter

Incredible work indeed...but honestly the first 2D GUI i think was already perfect :) Still a nice project!

In unrelated news, after posting the message above I received an email from NI saying that I've been promoted to "Noise". Lucky me.

Btw, Peter, I'm always on the lookout for glowing translucent buttons. I'll be keeping an eye on this.

Very interesting, How do you integrate blender with Reaktor, do you need a 3d headset or something.

Thanks so much for the compliment!

I'm not out of the woods yet, though.

Rendering and compositing will prove quite the challenge!

Still working on those glowing buttons btw. Turns out to be pretty hard to make them look realistic.

    Watch this space!

As a fan of both Reaktor and Blender, though very much a beginner with the latter, I look forward to this!

Peter, can bring the translucent inside the instrument? Pulsations with the music.

    Buttons.

Simple and blue. Same as the LFO indicator LED's.

Might make the ON button slightly bigger.

    OFF:

    ON:

The buttons and LFO indicators will of course light up independently.

    Peter

Buttons and LFO indicator LED's done.

Modeled audio output and an AC power connectors to complete the picture.

    Next up:

Creating LED number displays for the Wave selectors.

BTW: A few of the wave table slots are empty. I based CRUDE off of a wave table oscillator from the UL, and it had these empty slots. If you can help me fix this, please do. Thank you.

    Peter
