After I answered in another thread, I didn't get notified that there was a response to my post - maybe because my post wasn't quoted?

(#1) Yes. To get notified you need to enable: "Notify me when people comment on discussions I've participated in." in your profile notification preferences. Most users reply without quoting or @ tagging 😑

And that thread also does not show up for under "My Discussions" - maybe because it's a question thread?

No. It's because the thread was not started by you, when you just participate you "comment" so it will be in your profile under the Comments link

As a result I didn't react to that thread any further, leaving the OP still without an answer. Which in turn lead to @Kaiwan_NI mentioning me. But that post presumably got deleted, yet it still shows up in my my notifications, but it's a dead link.

I was just telling the staff the exact same issue 10min ago, quite the coincidence. Also, note that #1 will blow up your notifications if you engage in very active threads such as this one, or "Come Say Hello 👋" etc...

ahh thanks - I amended my notification settings accordingly.

that seems to give me my individual posts, which is also useful; but I was also hoping there would be a listing of question threads that I've participated in.

Side note: the link in your post doesn't seem to work - I had to edit it, to remove the doubling up of the URL) EDIT: looks like you fixed it 😀

haha - good that you noticed, too!😁 The pop-up notification could most certainly be removed, while it's understandable, that the outbound notification email can't be unsent.

We work closely with them especially in regards to what we're trying to implement here in terms of product communication and obviously driving a lot of what is going to happen in terms of user-facing communication in the future but I'd hate for you to think that what we do is just a big PR exercise.

You got my Discord though so you can always ask me personally if you need more clarification over a specific topic 😉

I found out that I can't delete quotes. Sometimes I make mistakes by selecting a wrong quote or doubling a quote and I can't remove them. I have to save as draft then delete the drafts.

Why is there a limit on the ignore list? Why do we still see threads from people we've ignored?

This is just a default number, we can easily change that. I'll get this increased to a much higher number.

As for the threads, since they would contain comments from members you haven't ignored, they will still show-up.

After a few weeks with this community I have a few things that I find cumbersome to navigate around — especially with navigation! :)

One thing I find is that this community has yet to accumulate enough info/sources/advice etc. to be really useful, especially for new NI user like me and I think one HUGE threshold is that if I search for a specific thing, it’s probably on the old forum, something I only discovered it exists by accident.

So not having access to it from in here makes this whole thing cumbersome to use and mbe prevents new folks from even using this new forum, as they wouldn’t find much useful stuff in here and don’t even bother to participate, as this forum here looks pretty empty and thus not active.

There has to be way on the IT part of having at least the option to search both, new and old, from one central search function? That would make the community so much more useful. Yes it’s work. But you NI already put in the work of scrapping the old forum and programming a new one. That’s just the extra mile to properly link it and make it usable (coz there’s a ton of good info on the old forum).

    cheers

    Thanks for the feedback!

Unfortunately, there is no option for us to make the old forum searchable from here. The old platform has 15 years of super useful conversations but also discussions that are no longer relevant or simply misguided. Indexing that content here would make the whole set-up a extra messy imo. One thing we're doing though is looking at the data and making sure the relevant threads are somehow reflected here. We'll start creating more content ourselves to match what users check the most there.

We launched this community less than a month ago and the participation and posting is actually much higher than in the old place, meaning it won't take too long to get the essential back.

If you have anything you'd like to discuss again here, you can also create a thread 🙌

I don't remember if it's been mentioned already, but the breadcrumbs don't reflect the structure once you are in a subforum

Another thing: The tags are kind of pointless. I can not create new ones. There is no list apart from "popular tags" which may or may not be a list which helps with the post I am creating. What is it I should be doing? Trying to guess the right tag?

Expectation is I start typing. System offers existing tags which are spelled like what I am doing. I choose one. If there aren't any I create a new one. But result today was I could not be bothered with trying to guess which existing tags might fit my post.

I just stumbled up upon this page. Did someone notice the new forum is awkwardly slow?

Yes, a bit. Matt said somewhere on this huge thread that they're working on solutions for that.
