Can't route VST outputs (XO) to separate channels in Maschine

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to route the individual outputs from XO by XLN Audio to separate pads or mixer channels within the same group in Maschine. Here's my setup

  • XO is loaded as a VST on one pad (e.g., Pad 1) in a group.
  • Inside XO, each lane is routed to a different output (Out 1–8).
  • Normally, in Maschine, I should be able to go to another pad (say, Pad 2), set the Input to "Audio," and select one of XO’s outputs as the source (like "Input → Group → Sound 1 → Out 2").
  • This works fine with other multi-out plugins (e.g., Elektron Syntakt or Battery), where I can multitrack each sound easily using this method.

The issue: XO’s additional outputs (beyond the main stereo out) simply don’t appear in the routing options inside Maschine. No matter what I try — refreshing, rescanning plugins, changing plugin mode from VST2 to VST3 — Maschine just doesn't recognize the additional outputs from XO.

Has anyone experienced this specifically with XO, or seen similar behavior with other plugins?
Is there a known workaround, or is this just a bug/limitation?

I'm on Windows 11 with Maschine 2 and 3 (VST3 version of XO), and I've had other issues with Native Instruments lately (e.g., VST window resizing bugs), so I'm wondering if this could be related.

Any insights would be much appreciated!

    Hello,

habe you enabled the outputs lie described here under the point "enable outputs" or something like that:

Do the XO multichannel outputs work correctly in other software?

In other words, maybe it's XO that's the issue.

This works with Stylus RMX, Beatmaker, Virtual Drummer.

I think the XO outputs are configured incorrectly.

XO works perfectly in other DAWs, with the same settings (multichannel outputs enabled). I think the issue is on NI side as I only get this problem with Maschine 3

Yeah I did this, but this won't make appear the outputs in Maschine's Input section, this is just routing the audio of XO to seperate channel (internaly) . In my original post :

"Inside XO, each lane is routed to a different output (Out 1–8)."

    Hi
I want to route audio from my daw (Ableton) to Maschine 3 vst. In Maschine it seems like you can have up to 16 inputs (L+R) but when I want to send audio from Ableton to Maschine 3 it only displays 7 tracks ? (see picture)

Is there a way to activate all 16 inputs ?

Here's an example with Beatmaker. Highlighted.
Pad 5 is indeed triggered and audible when pressed.

I don't have XO, so I can't try it. Have you contacted XLN Audio ?

Thank you for the screenshots, this is actually what I should be seeing when selecting the audio input on a pad, with all XO channels displayed. It works with every vst I tried so far but for XO there is nothing, even though I routed XO tracks in the plugin before … I am in contact with Xln Audio and Native Instruments on the subject but no solution for now

I just gave it a try here, and can confirm what you've experienced.

+1 Yeah, same here… MacOS, both on Maschine 2 and 3.

I added a Bug tag to the original post.

No. No idea why, but Maschine has always been limited in terms of input.

At least now with MAS-3 we have 7, MAS-2 only had 4 Inputs. 🤷‍♂️

    the one u miss should be from sidechain 1+2…+ 7x(L+R) = 16

but that´s not true, somehow they use 1+2 twice.

fwiw, this is how it's handled on Cubase:

"Maschine In 1" has always been an issue. Input 1 was handled by adding the old Maschine FX directly as an insert. I've never figured out a way to access it with the normal plugin.

I haven't tested this to confirm it works as expected. I've only gone as far as taking the screenshot.
