I hate maschine scene/group. How to use with 4/8/16 bar patterns while changing drum kit patterns?

Like all I want to do is copy the 8 bars and then edit them slightly for the next 8 bars. But I can't change the pattern on 1 part of the scene without it changing the other part.

I can't easily and copy and paste the scene over to another group. Without basically re doing the entire "scene"

Like I miss maschine 1.0 so much.

Can someone refer me to a DAW where I can use all of machine sounds and actually make my beat in 8 bars at a time instead of whatever complicated ****** this scene/pattern stuff is?

I Know I'm not explaining myself well enough and I Couldn't be bothered right now. I can take screenshots later.

Nvm I figured it out. No clue how I did it but at least now I can change the pattern on the "main" without it changin the pattern on the "intro"

This will work. That's all i want. None of these scenee/groups complicated I'm gonna have 8 seconds of my song have a hipass and 8 seconds with a lowpass and then 8 seconds with a hi hat with this pattern and then 6 seconds with a hi hat with this pattern or whatever the heck it's for.

I don't know why they changed it from maschine 1 to 2 like this but I'm sure it's better for most people. It's probably over my head but idc. All I need is something where I can write a 8/16/32 bar loop and change up the pattern throughout it. (I remember FL being like that)

If anyone has a clue what I am trying to say and some good tutorial videos to link for me for maschine 2.0/mk2 let me know.

This may look silly to some people but this is how I want to do it. (Unless I make a 2nd group of sounds which I'm sure I will eventually separate the drum kit from the melodys… I am just screwing around and learning how to use it right now)

I just want to do 4/8 bar chunks and change up the pattern of the drum kit or cut off a melody or whatever the heck I want to do with this format.

If anyone sees what I am doing and had suggestions for me whether it's a video, a different DAW, or to streamline what I am doing on maschine please let me know.

I don't wnat to have group 1 scene 1 trasition into group 2 scene 1 then group 2 scene 2 then group 3 scene 4 or whatever. That seems like complicated EDM kinda stuff where the beat is changing all the time.

All I want to do is make boom baps or even "Trap beats" (Not really) where I can change the drum pattern.

Like for example I love Appollo brown boom baps and it's pretty obvious he just uses like an old AKAI and samples some stuff then loops it and bam, you got 8/16 bar loop with the drums/pattern never changing.

I want in between the two. A nice old boom bap sounding 8/16 bar cook but I actually change up the drum kit and maybe even the melody (drops or some ******) throughout it.

Any advice other then learn how to use maschine 2.0 scenes/groups properly? lmao

(Don't mind the hat spam in the main part It's just me listening for the change, not to sound good lmao)

in the settings , there’s a setting for linked duplicated sections , what happens when that is active , is if you duplicate a scene , they will be linked and any change in one will change in the other

So turn that off if you don’t want that to happen , there’s a checkbox under Default/scene/section

There also a setting to create a new pattern when duplicating scenes , you probably want to switch that on

You can also unlink a scene by right clicking on the scene to bring up the scene menu

they are handy workflow features because sometimes you might have the same scene/section at different parts of your track , and you’d only need to edit one.

Once you’re more experienced with maschine , you may find it comes in handy

Or just duplicate the Scene/Pattern prior to editing. This way, you edit a copy and not the original. The concept is quite simple once you try it.

Been using Maschine for 10 years and never knew this 🤪. Still, isn't it easier to just use clips and not worry about managing 100 patterns with subtle variations? Well, it is for me, at least.

It’s quite difficult to understand OP issues, since Maschine workflow is EXACTLY created to have the possibility to duplicate a pattern and have various “versions” (with some differences) to try things out that then will be put into scenes (and from there build a song).

What I suspect is that this workflow is simply not clicking with you… and that you are trying to apply some other programs workflow to Maschine.

Like all programs, Maschine needs to at least have a look at how it works in order to be understood.

You could also load your 1st scene into the song mode and then convert it to clips. Now it's completely unique, then duplicate the 1st 8 bars to make a 2nd 8 bars. Now edit/remove whatever you want from the individual clip(s). You can do this as many times as you like until you get a full song.

Edit ( this is more of a DAW arranger workflow) where your copying audio/midi event (bubbles) multiple times to build a whole song.

I do it like this because I suck at arranging in my head. I have to hear it. So I build in 8 or 16 bar sections until I have intro ,hook/chorus, verse 1, then hook 2. after that the rest becomes easy for me.

Depends on the type of music… In most, say the Chorus, Pre-Chorus, Bridge is always te same. Say you have 6 Chorus thruout a song and decide to make a change, with Clips you need to change it 6 times manually since they are all unique, with patterns just once. Pros and cons.

I’ve not really used clips , I got used to the scene + pattern workflow , they kinda annoy me because when I click on the arrangement window I get a clip , when I used to get a pattern, or something.

But I can see their benefit to others

Yeah… Clips are useful, but I wish that Clips were setup like patterns, and we could pick between different Clips.

Also… if you remove a pattern, you can go to your patterns area and find that pattern and use again but from what I understand, if you remove a Clip, it's permanently gone. Why not have a Clips area with all of your Clips the same why there is a pattern area?

Indeed, those are other disadvantages of Clips. Maybe they are not referencable exactly because they are unique, if you can't place a Clip anywhere else linearly but one place, why reference it?

NI presented Clips and an alternative to Patterns, when you want something unique to happen during Song Mode, say a small drum fill transition between two Sections without modifying the Patterns, staying in a layer above.

But then they also made Clips the default way Song Mode operates, which IMO is very contradictory to their presented use-case as it implies it the main way to sequence a song through the UX/UI, going as far as making Clips bright and Patterns dimmed… then went back on this choice with MAS V3 (better late then never, even tho there was plenty of feedback against this choice at the time) but it already contributed for new users to avoid Patterns never really understanding their power and moving straight to Clips as it's more relatable with regular DAW's than the Pattern paradigm.

I look at Maschine as a modern GrooveBox type of thing, in such an environment it's important for me to be able to quickly repeat things, mix and match, move it around, etc… Clips feel very stiff, maybe because it was never really fully developed to maturity. With all that said, they have their advantages too… I would just never arrange with just Clips as it makes editing a nightmare.
