how much flexibility & control do you have with the Maschine+ & maschine Jam

on a completely separate note….
i've been trying to streamline my dual maschineJam setup, cable reduction, portable speaker system(minirig4), even looking at the remote desktop virtualhere method, which does work but comes with caveats.
additionally having a pair of Xreal Glasses untethered to my m1macmini, to help with monitoring everything you would see on a desktop…. ive basically stepped out of the bounds of being tied down & limited by many of the constraints others have to deal with.
heres the thing with the Maschine+ & NI….
if NI were to have a apple silicon chip inside the Maschine+ (standalone)…. you still wouldnt have any additional freedom, and would be constrained by the builtin OS of the Maschine+…
this will always be the issue of any would be…. stand-alone unit
why people hype up the standalone Maschine+ or Akai etc etc… do they have wool over their eyes??
anyway… it is what it is

Out of curiosity: how do you even say to Maschine to send to iPad? Does a new device appear under midi when you connect the WiFi in that way (which, I admit I still haven’t understood 😂)?

I hope I can be proved wrong also on this… but as per my experience (and ozon’s one), when connected to the M+ usb type A ports the Jam doesn’t even allow to switch to midi mode (so no templates possible)

when it comes down to the nitty gritty, it really depends on if all the extra workaround is worth additional templates created via controller editor… as the steps to make it work, require both an android phone that is compatible with virtualhere and the need for a remote computer to be actively connected.
when you get to this point of all the additional bits and peices required for it to work… it sort of defeats the purpose of having a Maschine+

I'd wonder if there are any rtp midi tools build for something like a raspberry pi zero. I doubt it would be as flexible as something like the mioxm or xl; but would probably make a fun project.
i know there is a application on android that ties itself to the rtp midi over wifi
its called "midi hub" by true blue interactive

Complicated to explain without taking a bunch of screenshots. My ipad always receives the same IP on my network. The mio will initiate an RTP (network) midi connection as soon as it sees it on the network.
Since maschine is connected to the mio via USB, all of the "DAW" ports are available. I have port 7 routed to the ipad in the mioxm.
So maschine isn't connecting to the ipad. It's connecting to the mioxm. The mio is connecting to the ipad.

Oh ok… so it’s like with my Audio 4+ (also from iConnectivity).
But…everything is connected with cables anyway…so… it defeats the idea of WiFi…
If I must use an usb cable to connect the M+ to the mio….at this point it is better to use it to connect to my iPad directly. And the iPad doesn’t connect to the M+ with WiFi anyway…it connects to the mio that then sends the messages to the M+ with the usb cable… practically the mio is an external ulterior WiFi module for M+… so I stand on my point that iPad can’t connect to M+ with WiFi.
Or not…? Smoke starts coming out of my brain…
I think I’ll give up in trying to understand…😂

You're correct. It just happens to work because the mio is on my network. It's not connecting directly to M+.
It will be interesting to see what happens if someone starts hacking around on M+ and gets root access. Assuming network midi is handled at the OS level and the OS just presents the software with available ports…
I wouldn't do it if I were NI. We have people coming to the ecosystem that are computer illiterate; trying to guide them through RTP/Network MIDI would be a nightmare (source: I worked in tech support for a decade. DO NOT WANT). That said; having some sort of community supported version could get quite interesting for the nerds out there.

I can see your interest… but I’ll keep plugging my usb cable from iPad to M+ 😂

@LostInFoundation you mentioned "…Since I named the 4+… this is another solution I use, providing MIDI AND audio to and from M+ and iPad in both directions…"
Wondering how you are getting Audio in both directions? Is it with just a UBS-B/USB-C cable? I just tried connecting Maschine+ to my iPad and MIDI works great, but I am not getting Audio. Are you using something else to also get the Audio in addition to MIDI?

Yes, I’m using something else in that case, exactly the mentioned 4+ (iConnectivity Audio 4+, an audio/midi interface that allows to be used by 2 systems at the same time, providing audio and midi back and forth).
As you already discovered, connecting only an USB cable from iPad to Maschine+ only midi gets passed.
If you have an older iPad model (one of those that still had the headphones socket) you can use in addition to the USB an audio cable to plug into M+ internal audio interface. I never tested if it’s possible to do the same with newer iPads using one of those USB hubs that also have an audio socket

Thank you! I thought this might be the case. I do have a USB-C to Audio cable which I’ve been using to sample iPad/iPhone (https://a.co/d/6iYUGzS) and I’ll have to try a USB-c hub to see if I can do both MIDI and Audio at the same time. But the fact that I can get MIDI into M+ over USB is awesome. I tried Harmony Bloom for iPad and it worked well.

Agree: awesome.
As I said, having a dedicated separated very flat, very compact touchscreen for those kind of apps to control M+ (or DAWs in the computer) is a very, VERY nice experience.
At the point that now this is how I use my iPad most of the time: as a midi controller which runs very complex apps that will control the more powerful computer.
It even allows me to overcome the things that other programs are missing (or that don’t satisfy me). One example: although in Studio One 7 they introduced a sort of midi clips launcher, imo they missed it (it’s not functional and very convoluted). I simply stopped to use it and instead I set up an “Ableton style” clips launcher in Loopy Pro, which then can also contain all the midi generators and midi controllers apps to use on the touchscreen. Best of both worlds.
Or like in this case: I stopped hoping for NI to introduce to M+ more sophisticated things than the very basic arpeggiator… or using their also very basic chords function… even now that they introduced users’ chords…also realized in a convoluted way (having to edit json files in the computer….really?…) and instead I use the apps on the iPad which have been created to fulfill exclusively those aspects…and in a vastly superior way

Do you think we will ever see something even close to this on the M+ screens and controllable with our fingers? 😏☺️

The fact that it can be done already, so easily, at no incremental cost to NI, suggests to me that no we won’t! And having the ability to connect the iPad easily just keeps the door open for others to build cool tools for iOS that we can use with the M+. I think NI is striking the right balance between functionality and simplicity that makes M+ be more of a music instrument vs a computer.
I have just got into the Maschine Jam recently and am so impressed with it and its integration with M+. The workflow in the Maschine is really well thought out, and NI were way ahead of their time. The Maschine ecosystem just works so well! I hope NI doesn’t change the workflow and just keeps adding & maintaining compatibility with emerging tech and add-ons.
