Can't change Track Number

Once a track has a number it can't be changed by double-clicking on the field. Let's say it's 1 now, you enter 2 in there and as soon as you hit enter it changes to 1 again. If you specifically click "Edit" on the track and enter a new number in the Track box it'll change when you're back in the playlist view.

A track without a track number can be given any number at first, but will stick to that afterwards until you go into the Edit view to change it.

Not a set-killing biggie but please fix this. Thank you :)

Probably because the playlist is sorted by one of the other colums. Then the order is fixed.

I don't have traktor in front of me, but I think you just have to sort by # and it should just™️work.

If you want to keep your current order, right click the playlist and hit consoldiate or something like that. Then sort by # and it should stay the same. Now you can drag 'n drop.

I would be mad if I could not use drag 'n drop.

That's strange. Working fine for me here on Traktor 4.1.1, Windows 11. What version are you on?

Can you edit any of the fields?

4.11.23, Windows 11. All other fields are editable as usual.

    Ok so this happened:

I could relist all the tracks at once to let's say 99 because there wasn't a 99 yet, but couldn't use a number that was already assigned. I.e., there's a track 10, you can't give another track the number 10.

It's only happening in new playlists, ones created under Traktor 3 are fine. Folder status in Windows Explorer (read-only or whatever) seems irrelevant.

Not a biggie for playing free form shows but when I'm recording mixes I organize the playlist by track number and it's a ****** to manually edit those especially when you need to go into the Edit submenu.

A little tip for tags: it's best to use the MP3Tag tool before you put your music in the library!

Honestly I'm not trying to be a ding dong about it, but why don't you just sort by playlist order + drag 'n drop? Editing track number seems very cumbersome, even if it would work.

Thanks :) I would but….I'm not building my playlists in MP3Tag. I'm playing and matching the songs and transitions in Traktor.

I would love nothing better than that but you can't drag and drop in a Traktor playlist? Or at least I can't, dragging items within a playlist has that "you can't"-icon. If there's a way, let me know how?

Oh man…I HAVE been going mad over this insanity. Thank you! While I love Traktor and WHAT it does, it sometimes feels like software from 15 years ago in HOW it does it. There's such depth and possibilities, but also a ton of clicking this does nothing because a checkbox somewhere else is not checked and it doesn't tell you. Almost none of my issues with it are "this is outright broken", but "this could easier/more obvious".

And thanks in general for the tons of useful replies. Been happy to read your posts since I got with Traktor a few years ago 🙏 Your input is useful and meaningful to me.

Oh, and regarding the ease of use/accessiblity/obviousness versus ultimate control. I'm very familiar with tech and am generally interested in customizing and fiddling with everything but I think that's mostly a "nerdy guy" set of attributes. A ton of people (especially the artsy and less techy ones) are and will go to standalones and USB sticks if someone isn't going through settings with them on Traktor so I do see huge value and customer base growth in putting some dev team effort to making everything as smooth and intuitive as possible.

Yes, the whole collection browser needs to be thrown out and start from scratch with new tech and user experience in mind. I doubt that will ever happen though. So many small quirks that just throw you off because it's not as you expect it.
