I cannot control the Komplete Kontrol plug-in or app w/ my KK S-Series mk1 88
Hi all,
I just updated to a new MacBook Pro (Silicon M4 Max on Sequoia) and reinstalled ("repaired" in Native Access 3.16.0) the Komplete Kontrol app and plug-in (now v3.3.4), along with a few instruments (Machine, Kontakt 6 Player, Retro Machines mkII) in order to run a few tests. I've also installed Logic Pro 11.1.2 and am in the process of testing that my setup is working. Some things work (I can load Komplete Kontrol both as the stand-alone app or plug-in, manually [= with my mouse] load into it an instrument and preset, and play it on my KK S-Series88 mk1 keyboard ; I can use my KK S-Series88 mk1 keyboard as a control surface in Logic [transport buttons OK, track select buttons OK] but I just cannot use my KK S-Series88 mk1 to control Komplete Kontrol, be it the app or the plug-in in Logic. On my previous Mac, the "BROWSE" button was lit and I could use it, I could use the rotary knob to browse things, I could switch between presets, etc.
Now, the "BROWSE" button stays desperately unlit, the rotary knob does absolutely nothing in the Komplete Kontrol app (the only thing it does when I access Komplete Kontrol as a plug-in in Logic is not related to the plug-in, it moves the playhead in Logic's main window).
The firmware of my keyboard is up to date (1.2.0).
I don't know what to do to restore a normal behaviour. Can you please help?
PS : When using …/Controller in the Komplete Kontrol interface, everything is greyed out, Listed keyboards are only M-series M32, A-series, S-series mk2 and mk3 of various types, but I don't se any S-series mk1 in the list. Does that mean that my keyboard cannot control the current version of Komplete Kontrol? That would be a bummer…

Remember that Komplete 15 is not a product - it is a bundle license consisting of a big stash of very old product, new-ish product and some brand new stuff.
The only thing I have heard does not work properly FROM Komplete 15 (in KK 2.9.6) is the new Conflux and Leap tools via Kontakt 8.
That said - do know that KK 2.9.6 was not tested whatsoever in Sequoia by NI and certainly not with a cutting edge 2024-2025 hardware configuration like yours.
As it goes with Mac in general - it is still very possible for some issue to suddenly appear. But many on here have reported they are still using 2.9.6 with their MK1 boards on M series Macs and have reported solid results.
Your MK1 keyboard is retired and so is KK 2.9.6 so do not expect support with that combo.

Komplete Kontrol 3.x is not supported on your MKI board
To get things rolling - you need to install Komplete Kontrol 2.9.6. See here:

Thanks a lot. I'll check this out. Do you know if Komplete Kontrol 2.9.6 is compatible with Komplete 15? Also, I'll have to check if I can use KK 2.9.6 on my Apple Silicon under Sequoia, not so sure I can (if not that means I'm condemned to trash my board and buy anew mk2 or mk3 one ☹️☹️☹️ )

FWIW - I have the S61MK2 here on Windows 10 and I continue to use KK 2.9.6 daily.
KKv3 is still lacking in a lot of areas and there is no real incentive or requirement to change at this point.

I am happy to confirm that KK 2.9.6 works in combination with my S88 Mk1 on my MacStudio M2 Ultra running Sequoia… if that helps you in any way. As others have mentioned, I see NO benefit in changing up to KK 3+ which will in anycase cripple my S88 Mk1…

Thanks for your help! 🙂

No worries, long live my S88 Mk1…

Actually that is no longer entirely the case, I'm pleased to say that all the Kontakt 8 libraries I have including Conflux are now loading in KK 2.9.6 from the browser. It was the case that Conflux, Porphya and Kithara were giving me error messages when I tried loading them from the KK 2.9.6 browser when K8 first came out (although they did still work when loaded via the Kontakt 8 browser) but it looks like NI have fixed that (I guess in a Kontakt update as they haven't updated KK itself since 2.9.6). So thanks to NI for doing that!
btw Leap kits do also work in 2.9.6 but for those you have to load them from the Kontakt browser - but that is the same with KK3, so the 2 KK versions at the moment seem to have parity with respect to loading Kontakt 8.

Nice catch!
