Mod wheel affects all tracks at once?

This probably does not apply to most of the conversation above, but I tripped over it when watching a product video for something completely different.

SOME Kontakt-based instruments CAN be set up to make the mod wheel apply to only one, two, or a specific number of sounds that are currently loaded.

But based on my observation, it's going to be some kind of a dropdown or selector on the UI for that instrument. I think Confluent has it. You click on the dropdown and then pick one of the options. "Low", for example, cancels out the mod wheel for the low sounds/patches for that particular preset. Or something like that.

I think the upshot here is that the technology is there, but the instrument has to have the right buttons/switches to make it happen.

    I hope that helps.

NI Support is suggesting it's a Sequoia (Mac OSX 15.x) issue. @ozon are you running Sequoia or something older, or are you on a Windows machine?

Running macOS 14.7 (Sonoma). Most of the time I stay one macOS release behind for my music system. Much less compatibility issues.

Maschine 2.18 is not supported on newer macOS. You probably need to update to Maschine 3.

im guessing here, but the culprit is likely your midi channels, its the most obvious reason for the automation to be behaving the way it is. So that is where i would begin looking

also you may have midi input channels set to "All"

you really want to set each sound slot to a new channel so the mod-wheel will not operate on all channels

another area i would look at is… in the preferences… and unchecking each midi-controller that is ticked, & doing this one by one… to identify if a midi feedback loop is occurring, (uncheck 1 midi output at a time & check the behaviour, so as to isolate the issue if there is an issue)

my understanding of the way maschine groups & the corresponding sound slots operate within a group…

is a "Group" effectively acts as Parent Track with 16 child tracks within them

the aspect of midi triggering on sound slots allows for 16 independant midi channels, 1 for each slot if required.

if you dont separate the midi channels on the sound slots, and leave each sound slot on the same channel, you will effectively get what your video demonstration does

@6xes it happens in spite of correct MIDI channel settings. We were able to reproduce the behavior. It seems to vary depending on the plugin or Kontakt instruments used.

@Tom Auger btw, I forgot: The bug happens regardless of the macOS or Maschine version.

honestly i'm guessing at the issue….

if of course all avenues of troubleshooting have been exhausted & the user has indeed done all the correct channel setting etc… checked all the ticked midi-outs that are in the maschine preferences

then it is likely a bug, in which case the work around would be to open another instance of the kontakt instrument on another group, &copy the pattern across to the new group

aint nothing that cannot be solved using another method *winx

Oddly for me it does not happen in Sonoma (14.7.1 M1), only in Sequoia 15.2 (M2 Pro). In all my years here, I've never seen a bug this inconsistent before…

Interesting. I was able to reproduce the bug on macOS 14.7 (Intel).

Maybe it’s more related to the plugin format used? I‘m always using VST3 if possible and never use AU to keep compatibility across platforms.

The more I think about it, the more it seems related to the plugin: Format, Kontakt version, even Kontakt library. Could actually be a Kontakt bug, which occurs only because of the rudimentary MIDI Controller handling in Maschine.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to post a quick thank-you for everyone responding and looking into the issue. I really appreciate it!

There are some good suggestions here that I will try out and report back, however @ozon seems to confirm that at least it is not OS version related, which helps put the pressure on NI to at least take the bug seriously.

The VST/AU thing is interesting and I will look into it - assuming that in the Preferences you can tell Maschine to ignore certain plugins that have multiple versions (AU/VST3 etc) such as Kontakt.
