I now have no instruments in my projects going back for years.

How can I get the KK VSt 2 and put it back on my computer.

I tried downloading the older vesion but the VST isn't showing up in my VSTs…

Any ideas?

Komplete Kontrol 3xx still supports VST2 plug-ins; it's just that the Komplete Kontrol plug-in itself is VST3 only.

Simply reinstall the NI plug-ins in Native Access.

The 3.x version no longer has VST2 support so you need to install the older version of KK. You can get it from here - https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000313457-Komplete-Kontrol-Legacy-Installers-for-Older-Operating-Systems

Uninstall the 3.x version first to avoid any conflicts.

Are you on Mac or Windows, if Mac, Mx or Intel?

Just to check what the problem is as you're being given solutions to a couple of different problems - are you having problems loading the Komplete Kontrol plugin or are does the KK plugin load correctly but instruments are not loading inside Komplete Kontrol?

I 've had NI Komplete for years. And was using the Komplete Kontrol Plug in VST2 and I guess for a long time I had VST 2 and VST 3 on my system and favored the layout on the VST 2 so used it on all my projects.

And have 100s of past projects that use lots of instances of it.

When I upgraded to the MK3 I got the S88 Mk3 for Christmas.

I was trying clean up my act and deleted the Komplete Kontrol older versions because I assumed that the VST 3 would be able to take over and just to open up the older projects and load the plug ins in them…but instead there's this error message when almost all my projects open that says VST 2 plug in can't be found. And I'd love to have the plug in's open with the instruments.

I tried to put an older version in the VST folder but it doesn't load it. Ableton doesn't seem to recognize it now…not sure what's happening. Maybe I'm putting it in the wrong folder or I have the VST 3 in there I'm not sure what the correct way to handle it so that my compute has the VST2 and it shows up where it should and Ableton can find it and can open it up with the right info…

    I hope that makes sense.

It seems that it sould be able to because I have VST2 and VST 3s showing up in my plug ins in Ableton. Just not the Komplete Kontrol.dll which presumably would be the VST 2….

Not sure how to handle it.

So that's the issue I'm trying to sort out.

The fated VST 2 plug in cannot be found.

Getting around this is pain as there's no automatic migration between VST2 and VST3 which means you can't just install KK3 and have things work. You can have both installed, but it's kind of a hack. Details of how to do it are here - https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/14394517675677-How-to-Keep-Komplete-Kontrol-2-9-and-Komplete-Kontrol-3-on-Your-System.

If you uninstall the new version of KK and reinstall the older KK2 version Ableton should find the older VST2 version as long as it's in a location pointed to by Ableton. That setting is in the Ableton preferences, and you can only have one custom VST2 folder so the KK2 plugin must be in that location.

Once you have that working your new keyboard won't work, but you will be able to load your old projects. At that point you'll need to replace each instance of VST2 version of KK2 with the VST3 version. Once that's done you should be able to upgrade to KK3 and the new version of Komplete Kontrol will correctly replace the older version.

Until you've migrated to KK3 the new keyboard won't work properly as it needs the new software.

OK unfortunately you are on one of the few modern hosts that does not support automatic migration. Live users have been asking for this for a very long time but it's still not happening so put some pressure on Ableton over that.

If you roll back to 2.9.6 it certainly does install the VST2, so it might be just that you need to check you have the right paths. And yes it is possible to have the VST3 version of KK3 and VST2 of KK2 on the same system following that guide (I have done this myself - although I am on Mac - and have the VST2 of 2.9.6 running in Reaper and everything else running KK3) so that might be a way to gradually migrate your old projects once you have located you VST2 version - if it is not in the VST2 folder run the 2.9.6 installer and check if you elected that option.

The only thing I would add is KK3 does support loading VST2 plugins, but on Mac at least it is turned off by default so you need to add the path to the plugins tab in settings. The situation might be different though on Windows (as on Mac VST2 is no longer officially supported)
