Is Maschine software 3 a game changer or not much of an upgrade?

I just ordered a Maschine mk3 which will probably be Maschine 2 software. I am a committed Komplete user on a new Mac and don't want to install several versions of Maschine. Do I start with version 2 or demand version 3?

The bulk of the Maschine 2 functionality wasn't added at version 2.0. We got the mixer, drum synths and improved sampler and a new UI with NKS tags at 2.0. I see Maschine 3.0 as a promise of the same decade of improvements as was given for 10 years with 2.0. Some critical voices will point to the years during the mergers that it won't be smooth sailing from now on, I think NI has showed by the communication in this forum that they aim to change for the better…

If you’re new to Maschine, there’s a very small chance you’ll need the few features added with version 3.0.

However, depending on the macOS version you’re using, Maschine 2 might not be supported anymore.

    Not for me.

Given the 12 years or so Maschine 2 has been around I was expecting a lot more from Maschine 3. Stem separation is a gimmick IMHO that really doesn't work that well anyway. The bounce in place addition is actually a worse option than the bounce to audio already in Maschine. MP3 support is hardly groundbreaking and a couple of extra midi editing options...wow!

The dark gui and other changes to the layout are a backwards step for me.

I upgraded to Maschine 2 as soon as it came out, but I've been away sucked into hardware drum machine a bit. I agree the new features of Maschine 3 seem like a free update than a paid upgrade. Maybe I don't fully understand it yet.

Not a glowing recommendation for Maschine 3 :)

I'm on Sequoia so I assume version 2 or 3 is fine. EDIT Its a M4 Apple silicon

v3 in itself is not a game changer. What is a game changer is that after a period of standstill on the development site and what from the outside looks like some business restructuring and acquisition or getting bought with some other brands it seems that the train is rolling again. My guess is that NI is ending a period of company and organisation related unrest and now has the ability to focus on their products again. And that is in my opinion the game changer, not the exact feature list that did or didn't get realized in V3.

What I really would like to see from NI is some roadmap. Like a rough quaterly based outline of expected release dates. Or better, a Roadmap like Behringer does for the development for their digital mixing desk platform.

You don't need to demand version 3, it's included with the MK3 - "After registering your Maschine MK3 hardware in Native Access, you can download Maschine 3 software and Komplete 15 Select (after product registration you will receive a voucher for the edition of your choice)"

Be sure to update to 3.0.1 ASAP though. 3.0 was a lil buggy for me. I'm also on M4 mac running Sequoia
