About your ideas for Maschine 3

@darkwaves thank you, great description! The interesting part is, that Modulators don't have anything to do with DAWs but are actually a ancient concept of analogue synthesisers which have seen a huge revival with modular eurorack systems. Therefore, it totally matches the concept of Maschine being a musical instrument hardware / groove box with a heavily modular approach (Sounds/Groups each with slots for Instruments/Effects, Arrangement via Patterns/Scenes/Sections).

– drum layering / round robin would be nice!
– option for making samples play mono (in sampler)
of course, this will have to be accesable for maschine+ (standalone) too

True. I made that statement simply because I already know a lot of people are going to want something incredibly advanced; as you'd expect in a VST. People are going to want to use the knobs to etch-e-sketch envelope shapes and stuff. I don't think it's something we should be expecting from the hardware.
Build stuff with that kind of feature in mind; but don't try to "drink the ocean".
People talk about automation. They want to have curves. IMO, maschine should be focused on performing that automation and capturing the performance. Do it with your mouse if you want. Do it with the controller if you want. They can try to add more features later.
2 -
Scale lock in piano roll
Integration of Chords/Phrases Tools in Maschine Software
More ARP Modes especially random and round robins
Better possibilities in variation mode
Automation Tools
Automation of Tempo per Scene
Step Mode for Melodies

My ideas had been the same even before 3.0 version was released:
- Adding automation - the ability to add curves, draw automation with a mouse, preferably in the song mode / arrangement view
- Polyphonic aftertouch - the newest MIDI controller would be integrated better and aftertouch would finally be unlocked in the Maschine hardware
- Deeper integration with Komplete Kontrol MK3 - I don't expect editing patterns on the controller, but browser and quantize options would be awesome
- Plugin Delay Compensation - it'd be cool to use some plugins that are a bit heavier on the CPU; I don't agree with some people that mixing is impossible in the Maschine software, but PDE would make it easier
- Legato option in the piano roll - it would speed up my workflow massively and it seems like an easy thing to add

On the hardware the modulators could work in a similar way to Macros.
You set up your modulator, then use the hardware to select what it is you want to modulate. That should work (as a concept) for any parameter that can be changed via the hardware, which is pretty much everything aside from some stuff in very visual or complex plug ins.
Being able to do this with the hardware might add an element of performance or humanness to any modulation. Similar to using automation. We're seeing a lot of basic modulation in all the Play series of expansions, so maybe that's 'easy' to port into Maschine and Komplete Kontrol.
2 -
Polyphonic aftertouch support for sure, including recording and editing of aftertouch modulation (MPE too eventually)
Browser and mixer support for the MKIII keyboards
Together just those 2 things would enable me to finally use Maschine for recording and composition in conjunction with my MKIII keyboard rather than just as a beat box
Sampler improvements such as time stretch, round robin and granular options (even better spectral resynthesis using iZotope Iris tech)
More scope for multiple time signatures in projects
Full support for VST3 plugins (.vstpreset support is still missing)
Better NKS creation tools including export of NKS previews and batch import of presets

If we're pushing ideas, my favourites would be
Sort out the UI. It's pretty poor at the moment. You have masses of unexpandable areas like the Pattern list, (which just doesn't have space for all the letters in my samples' names), the browser (why can't I choose how wide I want it to be on MY screen), the tiny weeny mixers (which neither expand downwards, nor sideways to give me the space and control I want), the atrocious pattern disclosure triangle (which should reveal the drop down for the group menu options anyway), the middle bar (which I can't expand at all), a crazy pattern display default (which somehow never scales the pattern to actually fit in the space I've allowed it, forcing me to rescale patterns all the time), awful automation control. So many things that could make Maschine better just by tweaking the visuals. For a "completely redesigned" interface, Maschine 3.0 is a total failure.
Visual feedback on some of the built in plug ins. I get that it's all about my ears and all that, but sometimes I'd like some visual feedback on compression or EQ.
Better/more in out audio connectivity with DAWs. If I want to actually mix anything properly, I'm doing it in a DAW. And right now, that limits each Maschine instance to 15 separate pads. Anything more and I'm putting multiple pads out on the same audio channel and I don't want to mix things twice.
Automation that is actually editable, with curves and stuff, like every other automation system out there. I love that you can automate things from the hardware and essentially 'play' it, but I'd like to be able to correct it afterwards easily. Or just mouse it in if I chose. I love that I can use Maschine to automate things in my DAW because then I can adjust the automation and be creative.
I like a lot of other people's ideas. The sense I'm getting is that people want Maschine the software to be about being creative with music, something that allows them to easily realise their musical ideas. This is what a waste of space looks like…

- Pattern & clip based automation with straight line and curve drawing / editing tools. This was supposedly the second biggest user request wasn’t it? Mulab has a good implementation for example. I mean even a straight line tool would’ve been something
- Instance-based clips - (linked / alias / ghost) - changes to one clip affect the other copies if linked. Should include automation clips as well as midi note clips
- Save clips to library so they can be reused in other projects.
- Internal MIDI routing for generative/sequencing VST plugins like Stochas etc
thanks2 -
I’d like to see a Native Link like Ableton link that can link masculine nd Traktor together. I shouldn’t have to use a third party software to sync them.
Also I know you can’t talk about future hardware, but will there be any hope of a new Jam?

Posted on September 8 and still valid:
List tagged with 3 categories for expected changes which are Maintenance, Basic and New Features.
- Maintenance Features are a few of many long overdue maintenance topics, that are a must for an upcoming major release.
- Basic Features should be included as part of a new major release and would be acceptable to pay money for.
- New Features would make me personally want to pay extra money for an upgrade.
Additionally, I would like to add another dimension with keywords to differentiate between nice to have and necessary changes, and those which are especially important to me.
MIDI Capabilities [Maintenance][Necessary]
- Full routing between Sounds and Groups
- Full routing of MIDI events for input and output, including controllers
- Accept MIDI events from plugins
- Proper handling of MIDI events when recording
Lock States [Maintenance][Important]
- Names for Lock States
- Colours for Lock States
- Internal triggering of Lock States --> see MIDI routing
User Interface [Maintenance][Necessary]
- Good readability also on Hi-DPI screens
- Ability to widen columns everywhere to show cropped names
- Proper auto-sizing for selected Pattern
Sampler [Basic][Necessary]
- Round Robin
- Note-Off Sample (like Battery had) - possibly also by defining a Pad's trigger to be the Note Off for another Pad (which would probably be "the Maschine way" of doing it)
Chords Mode [Basic][Nice]
- Custom Chord Sets possibly defined in dedicated Patterns within the Project
Scales [Basic][Nice]
- Custom Scales possibly defined in dedicated Patterns within the Project
Pattern Editor [Basic][Important]
- Pattern Operations (a couple of mathematical/geometric functions like transpose):
- time stretch by factor (2x, 0.5x as presets)
- pitch stretch by factor
- reverse (classical use, think J. S. Bach)
- inverse (classical use, think J. S. Bach)
- quantize to scale
- Crop Pattern (destructive) to selected region as defined by Start and End
- Naming Schemes for automatic Pattern naming when duplicating
Sequencer [New][Important]
- Step conditions
- Step probability
Arpeggiator [New][Nice]
- Selecting Patterns from the Project as custom arpeggio patterns
- Polyphonic Arp-Patterns, which allows to define chords within an arp-pattern
- Ability to determine priority/order of chord notes to be applied to from a Pattern (this is probably not so easy without introducing a new type of Pattern)
This list is compiled from my very personal perspective and use cases. There are quite a few other feature requests floating around which are equally valid and important (for a Sampler and Groove Box), such as support for polymeters, tempo changes and time signature changes. Or proper automation editing, especially from the hardware.

I just want to drop a bit of praise in - using midi mode with Groove Agent is now super easy, and my NKS Pack for Borsta works straight out of the box without having to use midi mode. Love the darker skin. Big win.
My requests:
Poly aftertouch
MPE support
Random beat generator - if most people use it in a DAW, this might speed up the ideas process.
Previews for projects
Interactive tutorial (because newcomers need this, IMO, rather than watching a video)
Double high five for @Kymeia's request: (even better spectral resynthesis using iZotope Iris tech)
Some integration from Pluggin Alliance software. Imagine if Lion was part of Maschine!
Fixes:
In Vendor view, have Spitfire Audio plugins as one vendor, rather than two (for plugins over Kontakt), I literally have two a-z lists and it's not a good experience.3 -
I quite like the idea that Ableton introduced with their new Move - the ability for it to load up a selection of sounds for you at random when starting a new track.
E.G. drums on one group, bass on another, a lead sound, a pad and so on. That way, rather than spending time endlessly scrolling through presets and demos, it picks from various places for you. Allow the user to set various parameters i.e. select from favourites or from a particular genre etc. but the end result is picked for you.

Since Maschine is great for starting ideas etc. I would really like to see Retrospective MIDI recording feature! Would be nice to just play melodies in Maschine and capture the midi afterwards, instead of opening other DAW for this feature. It would help to not miss/forget great ideas when trying out something with your keyboard or Maschine pads. Also it really frees your mind to focus solely on music instead of thinking when to stop playing and going back and record.

I love using Maschine as it is intuitive and easy to create music. I know that I can record audio from a microphone via my interface in the "Ideas" view. I would love to be able to record audio in "Song" view. Having this would make it easier for song completion when adding vocals. The audio clips option in "Ideas" view can be done however having the option to record in "Song" view can help when arranging a song and allow me to record, mix, and even master right here in Maschine without having to export stems and record vocals elsewhere.
Also, when arranging scenes in "Song" view I notice that once I have a full arrangement I am unable to Insert a scene in the middle of the song. This would be a nice feature versus having to select and drag multiple scenes to make room for a scene I want to add or find the place where I may want to add/insert a scene and change all the scenes from that point to the end to get the arrangement that I want. Thanks so much NI :-)
