How to assign to a cue point higher than 8?

That's one of the reasons I stayed on 3. Sorry mate.

the way to look at it is that the number of the cue in the dropdown is in chronological order, and the numbers in the little flags are assignable shortcuts. it's confusing that the cues and the shortcut slots are both labeled with numbers, i agree. but those are not the same numbers.

So it's hotcue number 8, thats in the cuelist number 10.
If you talk long enough about it, it's almost if it's normal (it's a trap ;-), the design is far from intuitive.
Main reason for me is to know the exact place to mix in. for example a drop switch, and will mix in the new track 16 bars before, or whatever the match will be, so that the drop for both is exact on the same time in the waveform. Don't judge me, im a beginner so maybe there is a better way. But the flags looks handy for me (when the next song is known, like in a set). But what if you don't know the next song. How do people that.. beside the answer.. feeling ;-).. don't have it yet.0
