Native Access 1 and NA2

I have just installed Komplete 15 standard using Native Access 1 and most software installed cleanly.

I did have a problem installing Izotope Ozone 11. You have remedied that problem by suggesting I use NA version 2 (Doh!).

That fixed the problem by I see that I have 83 updates to the software I installed yesterday. Do these need to be downloaded as some are very big. They look as big as the initially installed versions. I'm just thinking of disk space.

Cheers

More info on HD space, specifically how much free space, are you using external drive, what OS etc would be helpful.

Its very important to have adequate free space in the installation process. It is much more than the actual size of the library. One thing you can do is download the big libraries one at a time. I did this with K CE on a fairly small drive and had no probs.

As to the updates, Im not sure but I think the actual content stays intact, but Id like some clarification on this too.

Well everything downloaded and installed ok via NA1. Apart from the pesky Izotope software. I have plenty of space and am on a macbook pro (3.1 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7) running ventura 13.7

It is an issue of time and needless duplication for me. I don't think I'll proceed with downloading until I get more info.

Wise choice, but thats just me.. Im still on NA1 as well and have found it floorless even on a slow connection. I also have iZotope stuff but with the NI aquisition and things still messy with combining everything through NA2 (eventually), Im staying far away.

Probably wise Jojo. But I'm half way in so must stick it out.

In my experience you do not need to redownload all that data to get updates. But the updates will still take a while and look like they are downloading all that time. I think (speculating) that they are checking the data on your drive, creating checksums, sending those up and the server is creating checksums there, to determine what needs to be downloaded for the update. Checksums are small, but take time to create.

I know it's not actually downloading all the data, because I have a network monitor that shows me data going up and down, and when I updated Factory Library 2 I could see that it did not redownload the entire library. I also have done a ‘reinstall’ of a library which had all the data on my local drive, but I had a changed configuration I wanted to restore, and it downloaded no data, just checked it against the remote server and updated my configuration.

So if disk space or internet bandwidth is your concern, I would not worry. Queue some up for updates and do something else while they go.

I would stay with Native Access 3 (not 2, has not been 2 in a long time but some people keep calling it that) unless it is causing you problems. It is stable and solid for many people, myself included, if not for everyone (like most software). I am one who initially switched back to NA1 when the new one was still called NA2 because I had problems with it. I switched to the new one again so long ago (before it became NA3) that I can't recall when it was and now would not go back.

You are supposed to be using latest version of Native Access for your OS (unless you are using a legacy OS , Mac 10.15 and earlier / Win 7 downloads) if you want full functionality and full product support.

Also Komplete 15 system requirements are macOS 12, 13, and 14 (latest update) or Windows 10 or 11 (latest Service Pack) , meaning if you are using an unsupported OS (that will not run latest version of Native Access) then you can not expect all products to show, download or function correctly. In short you can not expect it to be supported by N.I. .

Also F.Y.I. then Native Access 2 is now just a name differentiating it from version 1 , it may say Native Access 2 if you download newest version but it will in fact be version 3.X.X

Do remember that NI is retiring NA1 permanently on Feb 29, 2025.

I know it feels like a long time from now - but you may be putting yourself in a real jam here soon.

If you want this install to actually work as we head into the new year - maybe consider a move to NA 3.14.0

    Hi all

Thank you for your time and knowledge.

Paul, you are absolutely correct. I hit the update button and the time taken was very minimal. 5 gb install was updated in a matter of seconds.

If anyone is in the same boat as me don’t worry and hit the update.

    Cheers

I agree, he should upgrade NA to the most current version.

Many times, I have noted that updates to NA happen in advance of upgrades to the individual apps, instruments, and libraries.

Yeah and that is what Ive been confused about. As far as I know, there is no official statement anywhere to clear up this preposterous naming fiasco. Do you know if there's anything?

Anyways, I have more than one reason at this point to stay on NA1. For now my system is OK and I have nothing I need to do in NA.

Sorry for the very late response but because you neither quote my post nor use tagging then I only stumbled over this by doing a routine follow up check of my own.

Again , sorry , no I have no such information. I myself find the naming convention as confusing as you do, and 'au contraire' to what one might otherwise think then as Moderators here we get almost no information or access help resources that are not available in public to everyone. (being a Moderator here is a learn on the go/fly and what we know is from either personal experience or from what we picked up here or elsewhere on the internet). And even should we actually do get information then where applicable then Moderators are also on a NDA.

    @PoorFellow

The ‘naming fiasco’ only continues to exist because some forum members (including possibly occasionally NI forum members) incorrectly call it Native Access 2.

It may have started because there was a time the app was still officially called Native Access 2 but had a 3.x version number. Or it could be the app quietly dropped the 2 as soon as it switched to 3.x, but this was not noticed. I don't recall (and expect anyone else may also easily have missed it) and can't check now. But it hasn't been that way for many months.

Maybe it's different on Windows, but the app on macOS doesn't say Native Access 2 anywhere. The only number is in the ‘About Native Access’ window, which says ‘3.14.0’.

The Native Access app itself is as official as it gets.

So whatever the origins of the confusion, the best way we can encourage that the incorrect name be forgotten is to stop using it ourselves.

    Well - I would challenge this a tad :)

Here is what we see when we search "Native Access" (searched 10 seconds ago):

And when we download on Windows we get this:

    And this when examining Properties:

Really hard not to see this as any but Native Access 2. The confusion continues for the Windows crowd anyhow.

For me then in daily life then none of this is a greater problem than what it is made to be. I think that we often do not need to use any version number in connection with N.A. except where it is needed for specific reason since people are generally supposed to be using newest/latest version for their OS unless using a legacy OS. And when downloading then one can always check version number of installer in details about file , and I always rename my N.A. downloads with correct version number myself anyway , so not a problem for me in daily life.
