Traktor Pro 4 survey

Hey there,

got a mail today from NI asking me to take part in a survey regarding Traktor Pro 4. As there is no way to give feedback on that survey directly I'll leave it here in the forum.

First question was about I got a controller/software bundle or just Traktor software at first. Strictly speaking it wasn't either option. My first contact with Traktor was in form of Traktor FS2 bundled with a FinalScratch scratch amp. Later I bought a licence for Traktor DJ Studio which I would consider as my first NI product.

But second question… Well really had no idea how to answer that. My setup were my two trusty Technics turntables (which I still use BTW), a mixer between them and a ScratchAmp. No controller but no DJing just with a laptop. 🤔

This question was interesting considering that Serato DJ now supports NI Traktor Kontrol S2 Mk3 and S3.

… because the first question already doesn't have an option that applies to me. it asks what my first traktor purchase was, with the options "all-in-one controller", "modular controller" and "software only". my first traktor purchase was a sound card. now what do I do? :)

What kind of survey and where can you do it?

It was send by email, only to those who do have Traktor 4 (…and perhaps not to all of them)

I don't think I've ever filled in a survey that gives a true representation on either how I'm using something or what I really think about it.

More often than not, question after question, however we answer, it gives the impression we think ABC is correct when in reality we think XYZ is.

I usually get the impression these surveys are designed by marketing people wanting to give the impression the user base is very happy with the product ignoring the fact that the opposite may well be true (talking about surveys in general not this one).

I rarely bother with the now as what I actually think is rarely if ever portrayed.

Surveys made sense 20 years ago, when people used to care more. Nowdays, how can you believe the results are true?

These companies need more inovators, not surveys that will give users the option that will brand X copy from brand Y.

Too often, the people issuing the survey have already made up their minds what they want to hear, and, tailor the survey questions to guide you in that direction.

The overall feeling I got from the survey was, that the Traktor Devs want to move away from laptops, and more towards all-in-one units. Not great for those of us using DVS, UNLESS, an incarnation of that all in one capability also includes a Battle Mixer with performance pads… 2 and 4 channel options, please NI… 😉

I had the same experience when filling it out. From a DVS perspective, the first few questions don't make sense. It's a shame that they do a survey and then don't think about where the users might come from or what they might want.

I liked the survey. I made sure to mention some things like waveforms in the browser and sync for the preview Player.

Waveforms in browsers would simplify the workflow considerably because then you could directly see which song you don't want to play, for example.

Let's hope that this can be implemented and the sync idea doesn't sound bad either.

Imagine that, a Z4 with a usb slot for your tunes and a small display, nothing fancy just waveform info. DVS heaven.

I remember seeing Q-Bert/Thud Rumble(?) "baking" the computer into a mixer once. Might recognise the software:

Thud Rumble’s Invader mixer with built in PC (youtube.com)

But yeah - a battle mixer with performance pads and a built in interface and computer? Good times, indeed.

But, honestly, I don't know that I could do away with all of the info that the browser gives us. That takes a decent sized screen.

We could have the best of both worlds - stripped back USB only performance mode, also plug in the laptop and use as normal when you prefer.

An alternative would be to have a version of Traktor running on iPhone like Djay Pro. If compatibility with digital mixers could be supported that would be great. Imagine turning up to a gig, clipping your phone somewhere and getting on with it.

Please suggest improvementa to Library management as an improvement for those haven't completed the survey. It's so outdated and lack of options and logical operators for smart playlists is really in excusable.

This should be a priority now as this Library management is worst that what "Apple iTunes" had from 10 years ago.
