Its now quicker to pirate NI software I own, than Try to Update it through Native Access
This post is now out of pure frustration, and quite frankly, hate and disgust, at the way Native instruments is headed.
Native Access is unable to update my software in one go.
- open Native Access - it says there are 3 updates, but clicking on them does not work, update failed.
- Close native access - on reopening NA there are still 4 Conhost processes opened from the previous time, this causes another 4 Conhost prosessss to be open (8 in-total), this causes native Access to lose all login info, and just, ****** the bed. Blank.
- Now I either need to restart, or terminate all processes to do with Native instruments.
- Quicker to restart??
Why is this happening, every time. Why? is it because you have that much DRM built in to your software, that we the consumer, have to suffer this. It was fine before NA2. Why have you done this?
So, what's next, for me, I think I would be quicker to just Pirate what I already own. I would not have all these issues. Do you see where this is leading??
I do not condone Pirating software, but this just proves, that there is indeed a case for it. When companies feel the need to inject so many DRM features into their download agent, that it maks it near impossible to do a simple task as update their vst's when needed.
By the time I have done, restarting and messing about with native access, I have lost any motivation to make music!!
I am sorry for this post, if it offends, it is supposed to!!

No, absolutely not. But, if you seriously consider stealing, and consider it a better option, then so be it.

How is it stealing, when I already own said plugins from Native Instruments.
I would just be downloading a version without any DRM, and without the need for Native Access.
To be clear this is not my intention, I am just venting, on how seriously Bad Native Access is right now, and its been going on for too long now. Just look at all the posts, with the same issues, on this Native Access forum.
It is no longer acceptable.

It's been a problem for very long that Native Access is extremely poor at handling downloads that has a problem. There is no reset when downloads get messed up and in such cases then N.A. just goes into a state of being totally screwed up so your frustration is totally understandable. I have a number of times in different ways expressed and advocated that N.A. needs some sort of reset functionality to clear stuck downloads from being stuck.
But me for me personally then worse is that it is not appreciated if one as a not N.I. employee tries to intervene in anything N.A. (referring to my 'turn off N.A. self-update Mod'). I have more times considered making tool programs to assist users managing N.A. problems but both it is a lot of work , especially having no N.I. help and no documentation, and further more then it's a huge turn off that N.I. generally will treat/see you as a problem if you do so and then you can also top it off with a lot of users being a lot less than appreciative towards you if you do so for more reasons including them being annoyed that you are not N.I. and that it will not help/get N.I. to fix the problem. Anyway , then as far as I am concerned then people are stuck with having to wait for Hayo_NI to fix it all.
Speaking in terms of a 'fix' for the problem that you describe then as far as I know then usually the only fix of it is to remove any reference to the downloads and also reset N.A. by deleting most or all of the N.A. and NTKDaemon files and the re-install the app.

Here's the thing I don't understand. I fully get why one might get frustrated when having these types of problems. What mystifies me more than anything is how, when someone is running a very similar setup to myself (Windows 10), they can have so many problems that I've never experienced. What's the delta?
I don't think I'm doing anything special in terms of how I interact with Native Access, other than turning off Windows Defender Real Time Virus and Threat Protection when I'm doing downloads. Even then I sometimes forget to do so and all that happens is things can be considerably slower, but they still complete and are functional.
In the past week I've installed 5 brand new libraries I purchased and did several version updates both on NI libraries and 3rd party libraries and they all acted exactly the same. I don't really think I'm doing anything that different from anyone else. Probably the only thing that may be different is how my libraries are distributed across multiple SSD's, and because of that my system drive has a fair amount of available disk space (roughly 550 gb) and that stays very consistent. For the most part when I'm installing new software I'm not running anything else, and I typically do install to my system drive initially then immediately relocate it to one of my other SSD's. My Native Access always runs with Administrator rights and I think all my NA File Management settings are stock defaults.
Other than that I'm running all latest levels of Native Access, Kontakt 7 and Komplete Kontrol which some may not be. Yes there are a few possible differences in how my libraries are distributed across various drives, but other than that I can't imagine how I have such a "blessed" system given I'm not doing anything really extraordinary.
Anyone have some insights?

I would say turning off Realtime protection when downloading anything is, pretty unsafe, and we should not have to do this with Native Access, for it to work. I have not tried it. I do not see why this should be a solution, or work a round.
But if you find that works for you. Then that's great.
I really can't see that being the issues though.

I can't either. That's why I pretty much laid out the overview of my setup to try and identify where there might be differences with people that do have issues. The realtime protection has never resulted in anything abnormal, but it's just an added benefit for speed, not the reason why NA is working so well for me and not for others. Finding other candidates differences might suggest where problems might lie.

There are so many software parts in existence that are built with dependencies on other things and on top of that then after compilation might directly or indirectly be depending on the actual hardware on which the are running and then add all the modern hardware and OS security features + third party security stuff of different kinds (AV , DRM and what not). As if that is not enough then the Windows NTFS file system is a file system that allow for a feature such as Alternate Data Streams (ADS) attached which also can exist even on files that reports having zero byte size. There are so much in play on a modern OS that trouble shooting wise then you will always have to look at the individual problem and configuration , and with electronics 'tech' you always have had to. I suggested months back that N.I. made N.A. capable of having a trouble shooting mode functionality to probe what is the problem when it is not working. I imagine that one of the reasons why N.I. might not be so hot on that idea is that it could maybe also be used by software pirates to try to circumvent N.A. DRM functionality which, let's face it, is most likely the over all cause of most all of the problems people are having with N.A. .
