I just snagged u-He Hive and (finally) downloaded Vital the other day. Between these and Omnisphere, Pigments and maybe SoundPaint - I have enough exploration to last a lifetime without every needing an NI synth.

I'm pretty sure that the GUI is separate from the heart of the synth. I highly doubt they'd need to do a complete rewrite.

I'll need to look into the DX7 from Arturia's V collection. If that does what I want it to do, by all means, goodbye FM8.

All the NI synths from the mid 2000's are laden with ancient (bitmapped) based code.
And I would bet money the UI is not separate. If it was that easy - would probably be done by now.

U-he Diva is next on my hit list and maybe another look at omnisphere along the line but other than that I'm pretty sure my synth needs are largely covered, at least untill the next must have synth comes along lol.
Recently got my first hardware synth and now risking a divorce by thinking about purchasing Arturia's Polybrute.

I've been on a mad hardware synth purchase as well!! Once you get one, there is not end to that cycle..lol

If you haven't already I would also suggest looking for DEXED, a free DX7 emulation vst. It's not as polished as Arturia's offering but considering it's free well worth a look before shelling out on the DX7 V.

I dunno.. even the standard VST SDK back then encouraged separating GUI code from the synth itself, if I remember correctly. Whether or not it's a mess, is another story though….
Edit: and now that I think about it, this wouldn't be its first face-lift (FM7)

So apparently FM8 is the ONLY VST that can load in TX81Z sysex files.. I tried both Dx7 V and Dexed. No luck with either. Guess I am sticking with FM8 for that purpose.
