FM8 GUI is ridiculously small
I'm a LONG time Native Instruments user. It seems FM8 and its UI hasn't been updated for the past 20+ years.. it's kinda ridiculous. It's still offered as a premium synth and yet it's just unusable at that resolution and tiny bitfont UI which defined NI instruments back in the day..
I've started to import sysex files from other FM synths into it and was dismayed how hard it was to see anything and use it properly. PLEASE update the GUI on this synth. Some of us are still using it and it's no longer acceptable at it's current UI resolution!!

At what resolution? You've not mentioned what screen or res you're using.
Looks perfectly useable on my 34" screen at 1080p

Try it on a 4k 27 inch monitor. NI definitely need to do some work on their GUI's, at the bare minimum you should be able to resize them. Something most other vst vendors seem to be able to offer.

No way that FM8 will ever get 4K resizibility without a complete rewrite of that ancient code it has.

That looks usable to you?!?! You must have eagle eyes.. I'm on a 27" screen. I was never ever a fan of their ****** bitfont UI even back when all their VSTs came out and somehow it's been a slow burn getting that DNA out of their instruments.

FM8 is not what I would call a priority at NI these days.

One would hope that some of the profits NI get from selling their far from cheap software would also include working to update older software and bring them in line to better support newer hardware. At least with software that's still being offered for sale at premium prices.

Well - this is a business. Business dictates that successful companies ideally use their available time, talent and resource to focus on those products that are actually in demand and that customers are hot to buy.
FM8 is not one of these.
I am just happy I can still activate it. :)

No, my eyes are knackered. I'm an old f**t who needs glasses for distance and for close up. Sitting in front of my screen here though (without glasses), FM8 seems OK to me.
I have sized that image down for posting here BTW.
Running much higher resolutions on smaller screens of course means things will be tiny.
2K on a 13" screen? No thanks.

In the grand scheme of things (trying to put a positive spin on my post) I did save $200 from not buying a used FM hardware synth and just loaded up the sysex files in my old, aging FM8. I will rely on my trusty glasses, will squint and bring my head closer to the monitor. lol. Thanks for the replies.

Yep, sadly that definitely seems to be the current trend within NI's business model. Software synths are out and far easier to produce sample based instruments are in.

Also - a lot of the skill that built those early synths have either left or been shown the door at NI as well. Can't really rebuild these things without some intellectual capitol to guide the ship.
For me - there are much better synths out there (that are being actively supported) than worrying about what NI might (or might not) do now.

Ok, I wasn't aware of that. Is that something new? Perhaps that's a sign of it soon being classed as end of life and becoming a legacy product.
