High quality, small 4-out interface for TP3/Mac use?
I'm looking for a replacement for a tiny Roland Mobile UA interface I was using for years, but unfortunately is no longer supported. It was perfect - 2x stereo outs, barely larger than a phone, bus-powered, no inputs and sounded superb. I want to use it standalone with a Faderfox DJ44, no DVS, so need headphone volume control. House out/monitor mix happens in TP3.
If possible (but not essential), I don't need inputs, just great sound and hopefully stripped-down. In 2024, it seems counterintuitive to have to go up in size to Motu M4 or NI Audio 6 just to do this, and RME Babyface and Apogee Duet have ugly dangling cables, etc. I've even looked at portable DACs but haven't found anything that looks usable. Cost isn't a primary concern but I'd rather not pay for features I don't need. That said if the form factor and quality fit though I would within reason. Any ideas?

OP said Mac. No mention of Apple Silicon. Just going on info given.
The ESI site says the MAYA44 USB+ and the Gigaport eX are both compatible with Ventura on Intel and Apple Silicon….

I know you said you don't want inputs, but maybe take a look at the reloop flux.
It can be powered via USB C, has a USB hub build in and is known to work with Traktor.
Also expensive AF, but still way cheaper then some of the other interfaces here :D

How about the MAYA44 USB+? It's pretty small and has 4 ins and 4 outs.
If you just want outputs, there's the Gigaport eX (same form factor but with 8 outs).

Their software, Control Panel was last updated in 2018, so almost 100% not Apple Silicon compatible. Can run under Rosetta, maybe.

I know the pain, they don’t give us much info and expect detailed help 😉
You are absolutely right, though. But wait, what if he’s using a Mac with PPC processor?
The plot thickens… 😜

The interface itself is class compliant. It doesn‘t look like control panel is of much use with macOS at all.

True that. But routing via Core Audio is not always flexible enough. Anyway not enough data provided to answer precisely.

As routing is a feature in Windows control panel only. After looking in the manual the Mac version can only be used to adjust some levels. Something you could do within Traktor…

Sorry 'they' cause you so much pain with expectations of detailed help.
Anyway, I do appreciate the efforts - yes it was an update to Silicon/Ventura that did it, as I obv should have mentioned.

thanks for the idea - it would have looked promising a few years back but at this point support plus spec for the money might not be great.

Maybe old Babyface, but what about following generations? Babyface Pro or Babyface Pro FS. They are great interfaces, just they cost…. And no dangling cables (if not using MIDI). But some people do not like spider like design. But if one uses USB cable and phones' cable with "bent" plugs, it is just fine….

I have mentioned Babyface just because OP has mentioned and considered it himself. So, I have expected it is not finantialy out of question…. But yes, it is overkill.
But nice device, I wait for good price secondhand, 500 EUR at max for BF Pro FS.

looks interesting but not seeing headphone outs…am I missing something?

Ah no, sorry. I somehow thought you wanted to use it to connect to a mixer. My bad.
Edit: Found this which is bus powered, has headphone out, 8 outs and class compliant for 160 EUR https://www.thomann.de/intl/esi_gigaport_ex.htm But I have not experience with it or the brand.

thanks again, much appreciated.
Looks like a re/side-branded Maya though.
I'll edit my original post to be clearer.
