Maschine MK3 not showing Ableton Live 10 clips in Session View
Hi community! I've followed the instructions for installing the Maschine Mk3 Control Script/Template into Ableton Live that is posted here: https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/4413367278097-How-to-Install-MASCHINE-Templates-for-Ableton-Live
And while the transport controls now work great, the clip launch pads are not lighting up.
I've read instructions that suggest that the "SCENE" and "PATTERN" buttons on the MK3 ought to light up to allow you to switch between the Arranger and Session Views but they are dimmed out.
I can use the 3D Wheel to move around in my Session view. But the functionality I'm really looking for is to see what clips are populated by seeing the pads light up in MK3 and to be able to trigger clips by pressing the corresponding pad.
I've seen some pretty wacky setups that require Maschine software to be also running, but that seems like overkill, since we already have the template integration.
Here's my Link|Midi Preferences panel, configured like the instructions describe. I've also tried every combination and permutation or Remote ON/OFF, Output etc.
Any help would be appreciated!

The 'silly mixer' is DAW Control. The Ableton control (Template) indeed requires MIDI Mode, it shouldn't bypass the control settings, it should be using it, MIDI is how control surfaces communicate with Ableton.
I swear it feels like NI makes these 2 modes confusing on purpose, names like "Template" and "DAW Control" are ambiguous and they have changed over the years only complicating things.
I knew all the details but I've forgotten since I am with the M+ for a while now which doesn't have either of those 2 Ableton Modes but if I remember correctly NI kind ditched ableton control in favor of that stupid (but pretty) DAW/Mixer Mode... They haven't been interested in fancy session view control.
In your shoes I'd forget about NI and just buy @Elton Memishaj 's solution, it works, it's maintained, and he adds new features from what I can tell https://community.native-instruments.com/discussion/64/v1-6-0-maschine-plus-mk3-mikro-mk3-ableton-live-11-midi-remote-script/p1

im guessing here
but normally you would also enable the input and output of the maschine mk3... both in the control surface section as well as the remote section area
also you need to be aware... sometimes the maschine mk3 & maschine mk3 virtual output are different ports... and not necessarily one in the same port(just something you need to be aware of)
also most of the time when it comes to bootup of your system.. Maschine mk3 will normally kick into the Maschine mk3 virtual port and the other port is Maschine mk3 is disabled.. this can be reversed but the process is tedious to do

Hi thanks for your response! I tried every permutation in that Input and Output grid, but no combination turned the SCENE and PATTERN buttons on.
I'm also confused about the Virtual inputs / ports - never really been sure what they were all about, but are they relevant to what I'm trying to accomplish?

Does the red Session View box show up?
From the link you posted try both the "Template" and "New Template", it's been a while since my MK3 days so I don't 100% remember the difference. Try both, and disable all other control surfaces while testing.
If I am not mistaken one is for the Ableton red box/clip launch (legacy) etc and the other is for the fancy on-screen Ableton mixer, the fact that JAM is mixed there in the instructions makes it awkward to understand.
For the MK3 I don't think you don't need to set up IN/Out. But try it anyway with the legacy template.

I'm finally finding the time to come back and play with this. I did follow the instructions to install the Mk3 legacy and sadly, it doesn't work at all.
The instructions say to put the Maschine into MIDI mode, but that of course then bypasses all the control surface settings altogether - all the buttons light up, but none of them do anything other than send CC data etc.
I'm trying to wrack my brain to remember whether I ever had the Mk3 working as an Ableton controller, but I might be getting it confused with my MPC.
I'm also using Ableton 11, so not sure if that makes a difference.
If anyone out there has a working MK3 with Ableton that they can use to launch clips (instead of the silly mixer) then I'm all ears! This is the only thing preventing me from making my setup a complete dream.
Thank you
Tom

Yeah, I was looking into it last night and nearly pulled the trigger, but you've pushed me over the edge and I'll be going that route.
I found another free solution on GitHub, but unfortunately I think Ableton (or NI) changed something major in the way they handle external control scripts and the Ableton 10 scripts don't work for Ableton 11.
Doing a bit of digging, Ableton 11 includes built-in Native Instruments python libraries - the actual controller script for the Maschine Mk3 is 8 lines of code, 5 of those being comments. It's good to see they are more tightly integrating, but I suppose Maschine (the software) is too similar in philosophy to Live for NI to put a ton of effort in making their hardware into a viable controller for Ableton.
I do like the DAW Control mixer, but that's already on my S64, so it gets a bit redundant.
Thanks for picking up on this old thread! You've helped a lot.

No problem.

Yes, Ableton updated the backend from python2 to python3, so old scripts need updating.
