Lost Playlists in Traktor

I recently got a new Macbook Pro M1 Max. I initially had issues where it would crash each time i tried to use it, but i disabled multicore processor support in the settings and this fixed things.

Everything has been working fine for a few months, i have created many large playlists and recorded several mixes. But when i just tried to open Traktor, it was as though i'd just installed it and i had to set everything up again and re-enter all my settings. As such, it has lost all my playlists.

I contacted NI support and they recommended i follow the below link which basically tells you that each time you close down Traktor, it creates a backup of all your settings and playlists, and you just need to "Import Another Collection" from one of the backups to restore things.

I followed this recommendation and there was only one backup to chose from, and it was the one created when i last opened Traktor and all the playlists had disappeared so this was no use to me.

The same thing happened to me before Christmas on my previous Macbook Pro and i was also unable to recover my playlists as no backups had been created.

So there's two issues here:

1) Traktor is crashing and losing all my settings and playlists

2) It's not saving backups each time the program closes (which is what it's supposed to do according to the following article.

Anyone else had this issue and no what's causing it and how to recover my playlists?

Hi @mozzatron sorry for a late reply here. Do you use iCloud Storage Optimization by any chance?

I have the same problem , I got a warning message about iCloud storage , i unticked the box and open traktor to find it starting all over from scratch , very very very annoying

Hi @Tony O Donovan unfortunately if "Optimize Mac Storage" is turned on in iCloud Drive, Traktor data can be lost. It's recommended to disable iCloud completely on your Mac.

Given that most people want to optimize storage, you would think that NI would have written some code to overcome this issue. Also given that this issue dates back quite a while - it does not reflect very well on their service level.

Try "Import another collection" from folder "Backup - Collection (choose recent date)". I have returned my playlist and hot cues by this way

This is happening regularly for me - losing hours of work - even saving backups of the playlists doesn't restore the correct files and sequence - I was planning on upgrading to a Traktor S4 but am considering not using Traktor any more if there isn't an easy fix to this.

Disabling storage optimization is not an aceptable solution when Traktor INSISTS on placing the main data folder in the Documents folder managed by iCloud. It should be possible, and even the default option, to use a different data folder. I have to change this manually every time I update my Traktor.
On a similar topic, symbolic links should be supported, particularly for music collection, without having to relocate the whole collection whenever the external drive with music changes

    TL;DR : this is still a problem 2 years later….

I've got the same problem with Windows 10 and OneDrive. As the iCloud person said, Traktor insists on using the main documents folder to save settings, and you can't use onedrive without it backing up the whole main documents folder.

There are so many things* i don't like about Traktor pro, but am forced to use it as it came with an S2 Mk3. Also the fact they still haven't fixed this suggests they've all but abandoned it, or don't care about this problem despite it being so commonplace to use online cloud storage.

The latest problem is tonight i switched it on and the playlists i created last night aren't there. Importing other backup collection brings up a bunch of collections (thanks, didn't know about that), but they cut off 3 days ago and i know i definitely closed the program properly last night so it should have saved.

Oh look, there they are in the OneDrive recycle bin. Another quirk with onedrive is when Traktor saves its settings on closing the program, it overwrites the one that's there so the previous one gets deleted in onedrive.

I'm getting old, so might well be doing something wrong - although i've looked at both traktor and onedrive before and never found a solution.

It's difficult enough finding time for a mix these days, without having to deal with software issues (this evening's session is already written off while i rant about it). You didn't have this problem with records, and ****** like this makes it very tempting to get rid of the S2 and get some CDJs instead - at least they know what their job is and do it properly.

Native Instruments, we've had a long relationship and i've always loved your VSTs, which makes it so hard to understand how you've half-arsed Traktor quite so badly, especially as it's the official software that (should) work with your own hardware. Please sort it out.

sorry, went off on one there…

*seriously, how hard could it be to allow users to use custom colours and add text to cue markers? and custom midi mapping is just a horrible experience - not janky, just over complicated and unfriendly (to old people anyway).
