Komplete Audio 2 + garageband in Mac does not pick up on my microphone anymore

Hi all,

Hope you can help me out.

I use the Komplete Audio 2 in Garageband on a MacBook with a ShureMB mic - suddenly it does not work anymore - I don't hear my voice through the mic. And first there was still movement on the mic track, but now it is a flat line. I bought a new Komplete Audio 2, but it is the same.

Any ideas? I checked all settings, I downloaded and updated the software, but no luck.

Hello,

have you tried with other software? And mach has a security setting for audio input devices, you have to allow every app to use the input, maybe that setting is wrong somehow.

Do you mean an SM7B mic? If so they're generally very low output and the gain on the KA2 isn't that high. If you have the SM7dB version (with the built in preamp) check that it's not set to bypass and also check that the KA2 has phantom power turned on.

On top of the interface there are two level meters, do you see one of them moving while using the microphone? If not then there can't be of course something coming through to the software. Maybe check the cables if you can. Have you checked this also?

Do you have the SM7B or the SM7dB?

You can tell by the back panel. two switches it's a SM7B, four switches it's a SM7dB with a built in preamp. The SM7B has a really low output, but I'd have thought you'd see something on the meters even if it's a very small indication. Do you have another interface you could try, or maybe another XLR cable?

@NathalieKamp Make sure that Garageband has "access to the microphone" macOS Dialog: “*App Name* would like to access the microphone."
