Kontrol S8 / S4 Windows Audio without dedicated software

Im still using the S4 mk1 and recently bought the S8, S8 running perfect with virtual DJ + Stems 2.0., loving the S8 ... only into electronic, dont really need jogs.

If im not running Traktor, Djay Pro or VDJ, i can switch windows audiooutput to S8 main or monitor, but cant get any sound, spotify wont even start songs.

With the S4 i just plug it in, set to default output and i can listen to spotify / youtube whatever.

I just cant get the S8 to work from windows only. soundsettings "exclusive" disabled.

i guess u can work around with 3.5 jack from laptop to cinch, but .... sucks.

For some easylistening it would be nice to use the S8 like the S4 just from windows.

Any Ideas? Am I missing drivers? (S4 works perfect with or without dedicated software)

Maybe a stupid question , but I do not see you mentioning anything about it, so have you installed the Traktor Kontrol S8 Driver 4.1.0 - Windows 7 and above ? (ref. : https://www.native-instruments.com/en/support/downloads/drivers-other-files/ )

Else , and sorry please excuse me since I don't know enough about any of that to know if applicable here , but if it is a question of 'audio routing' take a look at the VB-Audio VoiceMeeter Banana to see if that is of help !!

Well, not stupid at all. Without the comment i wouldnt have tested to reinstall the driver. thanks for your comment! sometimes its the most obvious : )

S8 driver was installed, firmware up to date, downloaded driver again, uninstalled, reinstalled, now it works, but my settings in "maxxaudiopro" (Dell Laptop) are gone.

Hope it stays that way after reboot ... wish me luck.

Atm "windows graphisolierung für audio" / "audiodg.exe" doesnt even show up in taskmanager. As soon as I connected the S8 before this task used one or two full cores and got cpu load up to 25-60 %.

Maybe something went wrong with the first installation.

    thanks fellow : )

You are very welcome , I am glad that my 'advice' were of help , and thank you very much for providing (the kind) feedback ! 🙂

(Hopes that the fix sticks !)

Just rebooted. Traktor doesnt like the wavemaxx-dell-thing coming with Dell XPS 17.

wavemaxx service popped up and started to cook the cpu, but after i shot it in taskmanager, it didnt pop up again and all sounds running.

    i call it a fix! : )

    Thanks again

    gone again ... : /

Not sure exactly how much 'gone again' entails but I guess that the sound is gone again.

Sometimes Windows can be extremely difficult to work with , not to say completely impossible. I myself had an issue with Windows after attaching PC to a television where afterwards no amount of driver switching and what not could bring normal Windows sound back. And all I could do were to revert to a previous restore point to restore normal audio. I am not suggesting anything like that here. I am merely trying to point out that the inner workings of Windows when it comes to audio drivers can be very difficult both to understand and to work with.

To me your present problem sounds as if the driver installation may make a setting or installs a driver or driver version that Windows could be reverting. The computer not being mine I can not possibly know anything about the finer details of the drivers or the Windows sound settings. But one thing to watch out for is the settings in the Windows "Sound Control Panel" , another thing is to driver settings and yet another to check if some other programs or driver thingies like what comes with Dell XPS 17 that possibly screw things up....

very strange ... reinstalled again, working again.

yes, its definately some conflict with the waves maxx pro programm ... now eating 26% cpu alone, keeping it at 4,6 ghz : /

i cant get rid of wave maxx, because it optimizes the sound when listening with built in speakers, like watching videos and stuff.

well, trying to figure it out. maybe i just have to accept 25% useless load and cant kill the app.

    thanks again

Sounds like something is reverting settings. Maybe you could use a Windows registry compare tool and compare 'snap shots' to see if that brings you any insight ? E.g. : https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/registry_changes_view.html

I don't really know what else to suggest to 'monitor situation'....

im not that fit with the registry stuff, even if i find something, it will get worse : )

easiest way would be to just uninstall the wave maxx thing, but without it, build in speakers sound ******. the waves maxx thing really enhances "bass" on the built in speakers.

the wave maxx thing seems to go really deep into windows settings (eq, soundeffects, even 3d effects recording you over camera to locate where u look and sh**, never used it).

im trying couple of things like, starting windows with kontrol S8 on and plugged in or plug after boot.

at least each fresh install of the driver fixes the problem :-)

If there is problems between the Dell(?) Waves MaxxAudio Pro Application and the drives for the Native Instruments hardware then you could approach Dell(?) about , though I wouldn't expect them to be very interested if any interest at all ! With respect to audio improvements then it is possible that there exists other more compatible apps that can help but I simply have no idea if !

you helped me a lot. i think dell wont be interested in fixing a problem with 10 year old gear. but the S8 is really nice, love it with vdj. and still love my s4mk1, which is not supported by vdj : /

with traktor 2, dell data vault caused frequent hickups and crackling noises, getting your latency up.

since im not a professional in music i can deal with it, maybe ill just use an old laptop with a clean and pure windows install without all those addons.

thanks again for your time fellow, appreciate it!
