Maschine+ as basic midi controller?

Hi guys, just received my Maschine+ and until I have the time to get to know it properly, I just wanted to use it as a midi keyboard/controller to play drums etc in Cubase.

Is it possible to do this without using the Maschine plug in etc, ie can I just load maybe Serum and play through the Maschine pads?

Any info greatly appreciated. Cheers

Make sure you're in Controller Mode, not in standalone mode.

Enable MIDI Mode - Shift+Channel MIDI.

Make sure Maschine Plus Virtual Port shows up.

I connected by USB to my mac and it shows up in Cubase but still not able to load a synth or instance of Kontakt and use the Maschine pads to play? Sorry for the noob questions
