How can I disable pads from sounding when pressed in Pad Mode?

I know I can press Select + Pad, but for live situations its too cumbersome. In Pad Mode I try to press the Pad as softly as possible, trying not to generate a noticeable sound, though it is still quite un-elegant.

So, I was trying to figure out a way to have some Pads to not send any note when pressed. Actually I am choosing a very low note, like C-2. Though it would be much better to just be able to configure that Pad Base Key to 'none'.

Any suggestion?

A very low note doesent sound like a great ideia, if its a long sound it will just add rumble to your track or muddy your lows, something you wont hear or feel at home can be heard when your on a big PA with big subs.

Depends on whats on the Pad, if it's a Sampler you can disable the very lowest velocity in the Zone Menu… So a light tap wont do anything, assuming you dont need full vel.
Or just decrease the keyrange and play note out of that keyrange.

There might be similar tricks for Synths and whatnot…

I suggested to a friend of mine who does live acts to buy a small number pad, he uses it to trigger up/down left/right and has it close to his other controllers, you need a programable one or use software to remap. Up/Down changes pads but Maschine but what it does is based on which area of the UX is selected/in focus and… Maschine does not visually tell you which area is in focus (lol), so not sure how usefull it might be unless theres a key that can force focus on the pad area.

TBH most solutions offer little cost to benefit, unless your live act is super busy and fast that -1 button tap makes a huge difference.

Thanks @D-One, that is a great workaround for Sampler. Specially the 'note out of range' technique. I will definitelly implement it. Then search for any similar alternatives for Massive and FM8.

When not programmed, I play synths direcly on Keyboard mode, so Pad mode is the default 'cockpit view' for the live performance, so its nice to find ways to avoid unwanted noises due to some intuitive movements on the fly, like pressing a pad to see its state or tweak knobs.

Keypad seems nice too, wellthought! But yes, as you say its limited, Maschine must be on display — I play several maschine VSTs inside Ableton instead.
