Transferring Old Sample Libraries to Work (from Ableton 8/Kontakt 5 to Ableton 12/Kontakt 8 on M4)

I used Ableton Live 8 with Kontakt 5 on my MacBook Pro running Mac OS High Sierra, with all of my sample libraries stored on an external hard drive. I’ve now upgraded to a Mac Studio M4 running macOS Sequoia, Ableton Live 12, and Kontakt 8.

Since upgrading, I haven’t been able to access any of the sample libraries I was using in Ableton Live 8 on my MacBook Pro. Kontakt 8 and Ableton 12 aren’t recognizing the existing libraries on my external drive.

I also want to make sure I can still use those same libraries with my older Ableton Live 8 projects. Do I need to re-download all of the libraries, or can I use the existing sample libraries on my external hard drive with both Ableton Live 8 and Ableton Live 12?

You would need to install Native Access , login with your NI credentials and download all your purchased libraries.

Bear in mind that such a large jump from Kontakt 5 to Kontakt 8 might require manual adjustments to all your prior projects as I am unsure if Ableton allows plugins like Kontakt to auto replace old Kontakt 5 instances with new Kontakt 8 instances.

Also you didn’t specify what libraries or if you own a version of Komplete.

But most likely there will be will reinstallation to get back to a normal baseline.

Why shouldn’t locate function of Native Access work?

Surely then NA itself would propose a large amount of updates of those libraries, but pointing it at the already installed libraries’ location should at least make NA aware that they are installed, shouldn’t it?

It will if the OP ensures that the content location of the new machine is identical to the old and the folder structure, files and everything FROM the old machine are now relocated to the new.

Locate should work then - but that needs to be carefully reconstructed.

Sounds like the OP bought a completely new machine here - so there may be many environmental things to recreate first.

I have the following sample libraries: Symphobia (2.1.0), Guitar Rig 5 Pro (5.2.2), Absynth 5 (5.3.4), Komplete 7, East West (100+ GB of symphonic samples libraries)

Not sure how many of those items will fare with a new M4 machine.

Absynth 5 is super old and not supported on Apple Silicon…Komplete 7 dates to Sept 2010 - so that also could be a chore. GR5 - also not Apple Silicon compatible.

I suspect you may have challenges here.

Fair enough. He will still need to ensure everything is identical as it was on the old machine for paths etc within Native Access.

That said - given how old some of this stuff is - it may be challenging to get it all authorized.
