The kick, hat and snare are always on the same pads, which get used thousands of times more often than the other pads. So to keep the Machine pads wearing evenly, could you add a 'pivot pads' feature plz.

The feature would pivot the pad layout by ninety degrees. So pad 1 is now pad 13. Pad 13 is now pad 16, etc. (all the pads move, as if you picked up the controller and spun it clockwise one quarter turn). Kind of like a drum map that remaps the pads.

Every six months or so you could pivot them again and keep them in a bi-annual or annual rotation. Not much more often than that because the muscle memory has to be retrained each time.

This is actually really tripping me out. I'm mashing on only three pads most of the time. It think I'm going to corrupt even the frame of the Machine if I can't remap the pads, to even out the physical abuse across the pad bed.

I dont want to burst your bubble but people have requested pad swapping features 1000 times, since maschine v1.

If it serves as consolation, all of us mash a few pads way more than others and there aren't that many reports of broken controllers.

I got my MK3 on release, 2017, I sold it to a friend who had issues on some pads last year, so it took almost a decade of abuse before it failed. I clean it up and it got better, then another friend had a broken MPD that still had a grafite sensor sheet in good condition he tried putting it on the MK3 and it worked, fixed all the issues…

The graphite sheet is the most likely thing to fail as it wears out, mpc-stuff.com sells it for 40$ (very expensive for what it is), theres MPD's out there for 25 bucks on ebay too… Buying a 2$ graphite sheet and cutting some squares might also work, not sure. Anywhoo i wouldn't stress out too much about it, re-learning mustle memory every 6 mnths sounds like a nightmare tbh.

Sounds a good option to prevent wearing + give posture alternatives.

Playing with actual distribution for a long time gets uncomfortable: though you can rest right-wrist over the desk, you can't lay down your left-wrist, because it falls unwantedly over the buttons.

Very often I rotate manually all pads 90° counter-clockwise (4-kick, 8-snare, 12-hats) so both hands come into the PADS from areas without any buttons. (that is: one hand comes from right-side, the other from below)

"Burst bubbles" and cavalier replies aside, I think this is a great idea. Ive had my controller a number of years now(4, lightly used) and its obviously taking damage (becoming less sensitive) in the lower left group of pads. However Im not spending another single cent on NI products in this universe, so if they did update the firmware or software to do this, I wouldnt pay their presumed fee anyway. Good idea, but probably too little/too late for most of us.

Although 3rd party/hacked solutions show up all the time, so keep eyes open. ; )

Ya. I'm surprised at the overall lack of drum machine love in the music industry. You would think there would be more cause drum machines are awesome.

One indicator to me that people aren't big on drums; is when I talked to everyone about having 32 pads on my akai fire. I would preach everywhere to have 16 pad drum kits duplicated and mirrored on left / right. For two handed drumming, poly rhythms, toms and cymbals arrayed like a real kit. Minimal machine gun effect on the mirrored kick/hat/snare and play them as fast as both hands can.

No one cared. That tells me people aren't generally big on finger drumming. Their drum patterns are pretty basic too. So they don't really need much helpers for drums. How sad.

Before I got this machine, if the ableton push 3 had a cubase mode I was going to get that instead, for the 32 pads. The wear and tear issue would be the same thing too, but more spread out over more buttons. But it's looking like I shouldn't worry about it.

Machine is so good. I was going through the kits to favorite the ones I like and realized I'm wasting my time cause I'm favoriting them all. 😀

Interesting. I thought that I was the only one thinking about this.
The way I deal with discomfort now is to not play for so long that it becomes a problem. Go do something else and come back later. It has the added benefit of now I'm more consistent playing every day cause when it's time to decide what I'm going to do, "I'll just play for five minutes, it will be fun". Two hours later and I'm still mashing on buttons. It's starting something that's the hard part I think.

Also put my KK keyboard up on my drafting table now, so I have to stand up to play it. Turns out that's a very good thing. For me it's one of the biggest paradigm shifts in music making. I can't describe why, but everything hits different.

Hi. Well, yeah. I dont see people not having much interest in 32 pads as = not having interest in drum machines; i see it more as most people aren't really trying to be pro finger-drummer performers. I've seen positive reactions to the new MPC's by the finger drumming crowd to the new pads that have 4 quadrants, so people can use a a corner to be a roll, another sound, etc… looks cool but i havent tried it.

Jeremy Ellis which was all over Maschine's early marketing videos used 2 Maschines a lot, side by side.

About the Push 3, what do you mean a cubase mode? Dedicated fancy mode? It has MIDI Mode and doesent cubase now has a fancy mapping API? Maybe you could try the DJ DDJ-XP2 also since it has 2x 16 pads side by side, sounds right up your alley.

All Pads loose some sensitivity over time, graphite sheets can't last for ever, thats why i explaied how to possibly fix it, how long it took to break down, etc… but apparently i as rude(?) Sorry if it came out that way it was not my intention to be rude to you.

They do lose sensitivity, for one reason or another. I take extremely good care of all my hardware and use decksavers for each, I filter the air (and vacuum often) for dust, and I dont let people bang on my stuff, so Im not abusing them.

No more of my money goes to NI until NI shows 1) stability, 2) better social media management approach (upvote/downvote is cliquey garbage, brand managers arent improving things at all) 3) better development approach(Im not here to buy packs and sample instruments, Im here for quality instruments - synthesis, novel DSP concepts and fx ideas, improved hardware & firmware offerings and performance tools, and the originally legendary NI creative output, which seems to have died some time in the last 10 years or so). Took me a while to get to this point, but here I am.

I don't think the stability is their fault. It's the way the world is going and that AI demon that rose up and trampled us all.

Ya, with 32 pads, not even trying to do pro live sessions. Even just the feel of having a drum kit arrayed infront of you is pretty cool. With the toms in the 2nd row and the cymbals in the back row behind them. 16 pads is still somewhat a drum kit, just a small kit.

For Push 3 "cubase mode" I mean, whatever it can do in ableton I would want it to do in cubase. But I got the machine mk3 script that one cubase user did, and it works good, so I'm happy with it. A lot cheaper than the push 3 as well. And I get to stay in the NI ecosystem, with my NI keyboard. And the NI factory bundle has more sweet drum kits than I have time to play on.

We don't need more AI integration or more features. We need more time.
