Hello everyone! I'm new here and I'm not looking for controversy. I'm simply a dedicated Komplete 15 collectors edition user and I'm a bit disappointed to still have to use Windows or buy a Mac when Microsoft's practices are forcing more and more users to migrate, and when cross-platform alternatives exist. I'm not even sure if I'm posting in the right section, but I hope someone from Native Instruments can answer my question. My question is simple: Does Native Instruments plan to release for Linux ? Thank you for your reply 👍.

The answer is no, as stated several times here by NI themselves in all the existing threads from users claiming that "everyone" is migrating to Linux, that Windows is unstable, and so on.

If people just learned to taylour things for themselves (like you have to with linux anyway) then they wouldn't have to be terrified by what they read in their social media feeds…

Use a utility such as Winhance, remove or disable all the stuff you do not wish to have installed on your system such as Copilot and optional system updates etc and carry on as if nothing happened.

Not a NI problem as such. NI is a business making software for the platforms that the majority of users use (which despite many preposterous claims are not Linux). If there from a business point of view will ever be another platform with enough customers that are willing to pay for the software then I think that NI will tap into that market too

No ! , zero ! , NIL !

Will not happen ever unless it to NI looks as something that they can make money on doing and at the moment then investments in software porting and DRM for Linux platform far outweighs what little NI could / would earn.

Also then despite what people might claim then , I myself, I am convinced that most end users using Linux are people that are used to get their Linux software for free (GNU / Open Source) and are not willing to pay that kind of money that NI software would cost once developed. Anybody end user using Linux that claims that they are willing in general to pay for all their software I think would be a minority…

So all in all then for NI to ever even considering making software for Linux then there would have to be a whole lot of potential paying customers. A whole lot ? Think the amount of Mac OS users or amount of Windows users.

Also then despite how many Linux users tries to paint people they think are against Linux use then I think that most of us here have nothing against Linux in principle.

I myself personally also thinks that Linux is still very far from being really user friendly despite it now being a heck of a lot better than it once was… Yes, you can run the standard software and programs relatively easy , like use an internet browser , word processing and stuff like that , but try venturing just a little bit off the beaten path and one finds oneself back where trying to customize Linux software is back where it is like what it was many years ago. (in particular when dealing with software that needs solving network problems).

Why this will never happen: it would have to be ONE distro everyone agrees to use, in other words, a true unification of Linux world. No chance for this.

Also system level multi-client ASIO driver, this will also not happen.

Sorry, Linux people - perhaps try to be realistic for a change.

Millions of people are using Windows and Mac DAWs everyday without any problems.

None of these ideas will ever see the light of day without at least a "Mac" size contingent of users - with wallets open.

Which we already know - would violate the primary directive of any Linux user.

Honestly, if I was THAT fed up with both Microsoft and Apple and internet and AI and data mining, I would rather have gone full retro with Atari ST 4MB and SM124 mono monitor and call it a day. Or AKAI MPC standalone or Maschine+ or old school Roland MV-8000/8800. There are endless possibilities out there…

I still want to know exactly WHY anyone would choose to be that "fed up" with either of these platforms? Are people really that naive that these companies do not already know enough about all of us?

And note to self - the one device/os that you should really be worried about - is not your DAW - it's your phone. Switching to Linux on the desktop - in some bizarre way of pacificing one's self doubt about "data mining" is truly missing the point.

As soon as you placed a mobile device on the internet under your name, thought Google Chrome was the best browser there is - OR god forbid - thought these new "social media site are really cool!" - these companies had everything they needed from you "data mining" wise - long ago.

The least of my worries is what little useful data MS can get from my Windows 10 install on my DAW.

@JesterMgee I appreciate your perspective. As an NI user I actually have lived the nightmare on proprietary OS. And have done the things you suggested. When i mention nightmare i mean have lost IP(intelectual Property) due to the very things you say people just read about. I actually experienced. As as one who's trust was broken due to how easy it was for those to exploit such a platform it would be nice if we as users had the option of which platform to use to protect our projects. And don't worry. I've already sent NI an email detailing some of the losses I've experienced being tied to certain platforms. And I've put in my petition ticket via the forum. But please to anyone else reading this - yes I have experienced loss of projects so know that if there's options that present themselves.

I like the suggestion you made about apps like Winhance. As those whom want back the extra CPU power and possible GPU as well as RAM offered by how well other platforms give when in idle is astonishingly high. So when spec improvements like that hit the table and the trade off is similar to if not better than what apps like Winhance offer than its time to consider opening the floodgate, just a little bit.

From what I have understood from a post on NI Discord then what @tablemannerz.music wants is links to Discord channels , forum threads (here or elsewhere) directed at 'producers' who are using Linux to run NI if anyone knows any such Discord channel(s) or forum threads

I frankly wouldn't touch such tools with a ten foot pole.

It's exactly that kind of third party tool "optimization", which often makes Windows unstable, and which is one of the top reasons why people have moved to Mac OS in the past. They don't know what they're doing, then they mess up their Windows installtion, and think Windows sucks, and then move to Mac OS.

If you really want to optimize things, I suggest you know exactly what you're doing, and get through the services and background tasks, deactivate what you're confident deactivating, and then move on to hardware specifics optimizations, as pointed out in the many "How to optimize your DAW" tutorials, like the one from Steinberg here: Click

If you're NOT confident that you think you know what you're doing, then don't do anything. Nothing worse than wrecking your OS, and then run to Mac OS or Linux, claiming that Windows doesn't work. We've had enough of that in the past…

Optimization are NOT vital. They're for the last 10% you think you need when messing with big projects, or a lot of demanding plugins. It's much better to check reviews when you buy a computer, and make sure that your computer can handle real time audio well, which is often a matter of hardware and driver combination.

it’s actually a well known utility, not a “enhancer” but a simple Swiss Army knife that many professionals use to disable or remove any piece of the system, it does not need installation, is open source and trusted and every change is fully reversible. It does what you suggest and disables or removes the services you select. Maybe have a look before commenting but your choice.
