Lower Priced Updates Throughout the Year

Just received the email from NI saying if you own Komplete 15, that they have introduced lower-priced update paths to Komplete 26 throughout the year, so you can stay current "whenever you're ready."

This makes me more optimistic on this release. Due to the insane abundance of virtual instruments/plugins that are available - and changes the overall music business has endured over the past two or so years - I found no reason to shell out $400 for this update. However, if there are plans to cut that cost throughout the year - there may be a price point that I find the updates to be worthwhile. I'm sure this is based on expected sales data vs actual sales data of the release. Good looking out NI.

I think you may have misinterpreted that email.

"Lower-priced" paths (for all us Komplete 15 owners - I own ULT) - were in play (and have been in play) as of May 6 when K26 was released.

My upgrade price IS about 75 less than my last upgrade (K14ULT→K15ULT) - but I do not read the email as being any indicator that my price this time is somehow going to slide even smaller - the longer I wait.

Have never seen Komplete upgrade prices ever get "reduced" over time - due to waiting. If anything - based on the new "tiered" price model (reintroduced) for K26 - the longer you wait - the more expensive things actually get.

And the email is really irrelevant as the best pro tip still applies: Never buy your Komplete upgrade outside a key promo window - Summer of Sound (if applicable) and/or during Cyber Week (if applicable)

Unless of course - you enjoy paying more.

Per the email - I am happy to be wrong but I expect my current (today's) K15ULT→K26 ULT upgrade price:

To be identical ($389.00 CDN) - whether I buy it today or on July 23 or October 23.

Prices are simply tiered now - like e.g. Cubase updates: the older your version is, the more you'll have to pay for the current version. If you are on Komplete 15, you will indeed pay a bit less.

I received that email and it's classic NI BS. I honestly thought they were going to give me a good discount and was confused when there was absolutely no change in the price. As stated elsewhere many times, wait for the big discounts (summer of sound, black friday, etc…) as NI doesn't seem to really care about loyalty.

Or (respectfully) you may want to consider refreshing your idea of what "loyalty" actually is.

"Loyalty" (to me) means as a user - I choose to purchase upgrades on a regular cadence. And thereby supply meaningful cashflow to the vendor via that same meaningful cadence.

Loyalty (to me) does not mean buying Komplete 10 ULT in October 2014 - then buy nothing for 12 years and then expect to get the same upgrade savings on K26 (for example) as someone who purchased their upgrades every year (or every second year) since then.

NI certainly cared about my loyalty (being an active K15ULT license holder). My update price IS less than what I paid to upgrade K14ULT→K15ULT.

They could have done nothing and charged me exactly the same as last time.

Yep, because that email was misleading for sure. I'm grateful NI discounted the update this year, but given the uncertainty of the company's future (until this acquisition by Inmusic), it's the least they could do. The email suggested something different (update 'paths'), beyond the discounted update. Scammy tactic. Still, I looked at the plugins included in the update, and to me it's well worth the price. It would have been worth the old update price. Just hopeful these guys are now on solid ground after the acquisition. I still love their instruments and use them every day.

If I did indeed misinterpret then I back to it not being worthwhile to me to upgrade. But I hope those that do are pleased with the package.

I get you. The good news for you (and for everybody) is that the NI financial situation seems to be behind us, for the moment at least. That means that you can just be patient and more discerning when choosing whether to upgrade or to stay where you are.

I am hoping to get some quality time with k26 this weekend; especially with the orchestral and/or hybrid orchestral sounds. But I also have a bunch of other plugins to play with too. I probably just have too many sounds, lol!

Anyhow, it's Memorial Day Weekend coming up here in the USA, and I'm thinking of going to "silent running" from Friday 'till Tuesday to just have fun and play with K26 for several days on end.

It's already mid 90 degrees F here in Florida during daytime. That's 35 C for those of you in other places. I'll be outside in the mornings and evenings, but during the heat of the day, I'll be sitting right here at my workstation with a big IV bag of iced tea or cold lemonade, lol!

I assumed InMusic had introduced some new pricing strategies.

Disappointed to see no change… the email certainly implied something more dynamic.

Misleading emails can be intentional or unintentional. I'd guess that 80% of the time, it's unintentional. But it shows a serious lack of ability (or desire) to communicate clearly.
