As my memory serves me, each edition of Komplete has been anchored by the latest version of Kontakt. But Kontakt 9 is not is the Komplete editions. If it is released this year, do you think it will be included in Komplete 26 versions? Or will we have to purchase the upgrade from 8 separately?

Komplete is not anchored with Kontakt. Past releases simply happened to co-incide with a new version of Kontakt and made it appear that way.

My understanding is that Kontakt 9 is a lonnnngggg way away yet.

And if history serves - any "new" version of anything - if it is released after a Komplete release (May 5, 2026 in this case) - is not included.

We would need to wait for Komplete 28 to get our hands on a "Kontakt 9" - if one exists. And if Komplete itself continues to be released on a standard two year cadence.

What is listed on the bundle compare page for the bundle tier of your choice is what you get. As far as I know then NI do not add stuff to the bundle after that they are published , if they did then that would be a first as far as I am concerned. What we have seen is third party stuff bundled with Komplete bundles at sales and promotions but that is an entirely different thing and if that happened then none of that would be added to bundles already sold…

That or you can wait until next bundle iteration and then update to that.

Well, there's a small historical caveat to that, which may have come and gone before you joined the NI ecosystem.

Have you been around long enough to remember "Komplete Care"? I think it was offered during the days of Komplete 4, give or take a version. I think one or two of them came with a plastic card (a card that really did nothing; it was just an "official looking" card that the customer could physically hold).

Komplete Care was kind of like an advanced subscription deal. Sort of like a "subscription with a promise" of certain major releases forthcoming later that year (or during some defined "period of expectation" [my term]). It was only billed by "version", if memory serves (so not a monthly subscription like we see these days). And I'm pretty sure NI never called it a "subscription", per se, but that's kind of what it was.

There are articles about that if anybody is motivated to read up on it. It's interesting, though mostly useless, history, lol. Here's the google search term I used:

So……you didn't get any new products added to your purchase as they came out. You just got updates to the ones in your bundle (which is what everyone gets now).

If you are referring to the 2006 Komplete Care then I think that you missed this section (quoted just above the pictures in my above post) :

"NI Komplete Care 2006 only relates to major updates of products included within the bundle. Minor updates and maintenance updates continue to be available free of charge to all registered NI customers."

Which to me suggests that the Komplete Care would include new (higher) version 'major' updates of in-bundle products like update from Kontakt 2 to Kontakt 3. But hey ! , I am also just interpreting , it's not like I was a NI customer back then.. 😁

I did consider that, but then how likely is a major update of anything during the course of just that year?

IME most of the content doesn't get that kind of update anyway.

I'd imagine NI would try to avoid doing any big update of i.e. Kontakt within the lifespan of a Komplete bundle. 🤔

I was here well before Komplete Care (2006). Still have my card!

And yes - I do vaguely remember how it worked. There was not a lot to be excited about in any way.

But all of that is moot - since the NI of 2006 was a completely different beast than the one today. None of what may have gone down 20 years ago - matters now.

My point still stands. Once a Komplete Edition drops - ANY new product released by NI that falls in between that K release date and the next K release date - are not included.

We are not made "current" and must buy our way back to "current" at the next round of Komplete.

Wow, thanks for digging up those images, @PoorFellow ; what a fun trip down memory lane! Man oh man, those cards were slick looking back then, weren't they?

And yes, @Vocalpoint , your points all still stand. I just thought that was an interesting part of history. For sure, NI would not have had any driving reason to do upgrades…at least not with any level of added frequency. Except for two reasons: They needed to keep up their flagship software (even back then), especially Kontakt and Battery, because the customer base would have called them out on not having any (or enough) major upgrades, making Komplete Care not worth the money.

And in a way, that dovetails into today's questions about NI "flagship" titles. You know, like Battery, FM8, and Reaktor.

The recent upgrade to Absynth stirred up a ton of customer interest and served to energize NI's revenues, at least for a period of time. Also, Absynth 6 generated FAR FAR MORE positive vibes than it did negative vibes or troubles. You can't say that with KK controllers; there's always something breaking or not working right whenever NI releases new hardware or firmware, and that's just a fact.

Imagine how many more sales of K26 (of all tiers) could have been had if a new Battery or Reaktor were included on DAY ONE? Or if FM9 was included?

Native Instruments has more often killed titles rather than upgrade them. Kore, Maschine Jam, Maschine Studio, and Rig Kontrol are examples on the hardware side. B4-II, Akoustic, Elektric, and others are software examples. I just think NI could occasionally "close" more Komplete paid customer upgrades by freshening or upgrading some of their software titles as part of that strategy.

Wow, sorry for the long journey there. Hah! Okay, I've got to go harrangue somebody about a malfunctioning Focusrite audio interface.
