The Grandeur & pedal/halfpedal

Greetings,

I have a question about "pedaling". Ii don't play, I write score in Musescore and then import midi into Logic Pro. Of course it sounds "midi-sh" firstly, but after I manually edit notes velocity and put cc64 (sustain pedal) automation it sounds pretty cool. However. With cc64 it sounds realistic (without it left hand arpeggios sounds soooo funny) but with cc64 resonation (especially low notes are way too much).

In docs I red about halfpedaling. I played with EastWest piano some time ago, and I could hear the difference when cc64 set to 127 and when to 64. But I can't hear the difference with The Grandeur. I clicked the "Halfpedaling" in the interface, however it doesn't give any changes. May be I don't know something? Is there some "secret"? I ended up with bringing Resonans knob all way to 0, but that's probably not the good idea as it makes piano not as beefy as it is.

It sounds to me as if you are having a problem setting the 'DAW' software correctly.

I am also a 'noob' with respect to any pedaling (have no keyboard pedal and never had one) and with respect to any Midi cc value settings. However I looked up how to set a DAW to feed a continuous cc64 signal.

For Ableton Live the Google AI says :

Drawing Automation (No Physical Pedal) . If you do not have a continuous pedal, you can draw the half-pedal data:

In the MIDI Editor, go to the Envelope tab.
Select MIDI Ctrl -> 64 Sustain.
Use the Pencil Tool (press B) to draw intermediate values (e.g., a constant value of 64 or a slope).

So I did that , and that works as expected on my setup (gives a lot of sustain where notes played carries on a while). Since the The Grandeur works as expected on my setup with respect to the cc64 then my best recommendation is that you look a bit deeper into how your software works…

P.S. / Edit : My immediate guess with respect to the root of your problem is that it is not enough to send a stream of cc64 if it does not have an actual value greater than 0 .

I am not sure how this applies or if this helps but the The Grandeur manual says : "For half-pedal-ling you need a special continuous sustain pedal, which outputs midi values from 1-127 instead of an on/off command."

So do your setup send continuous sustain pedal cc64 ?

Further more then Google AI suggests that : If using a keyboard that doesn't natively support continuous pedaling, some DAWs (e.g., Logic Pro) can use scripting to translate other data into continuous CC64.

I'm just learning all these cc things, but as I understand, it doesn't matter if my pedal is special and can output values instead of on/off if I don't have pedal at all )))

I put those values manually in midi region automation zone. so when I put a horizontal line for cc64 at level 65, it's the same as I played and half pedaled the special pedal. Right? Or I understand it wrong?

As "normal pedal" is 0-64 - off, 64-127 - on, I thought that halfpedal's range is in 64-127 (gradually) .

But it looks like in range 0-127.
