Battery Demo: "Your version is too old to load this file"

Hi,

I’m trying to load a kit I purchased some time ago, but I’ve never used Battery before. I installed the demo version (4.2), and when I try to load the kit I get this message (both in Ableton 12 and in the standalone app - Windows 11):

“Your version of Battery is too old to load this file. Please update to the latest version.”

I checked Native Access, but there are no updates available, probably because I don’t own Battery yet (I can update other owned products without issues).

I also found a 4.3 installer on the forum and tried that, but I’m still getting the same message.

Is there a newer version (e.g. 4.3.1 or later) available for demo, or is this limitation specific to the demo version?

We do need to update the demo version of BAttery 4 on our website. In the meantime here's an installer for Battery 4.3.1: BATTERY 4.3.1

If you don't own it, it should behave like a demo.

Are you using latest version of Native Access for your OS ? (could influence what updates that you are offered) . Latest Battery 4 is Version. 4.3.1 .

OP will not get v4.31 in Native Access at all if he has not purchased Battery.

I believe so, it was updated recently (Native Access 3.24.0).
As @Vocalpoint mentioned , I assume I’m not receiving the update because I’m only using the demo version.

What library did you purchase and how long ago?

The message you are getting is legit if the library is designed for v4.31.

And - do note - that all third party libaries (AFAIK) - will require the "full" version of Battery.

This message is identical to the one seen in Kontakt - when a library requires a specific "version" level. AND you cannot run third party libraries within Kontakt Player either unless authorized via Native Access.

Finally - Battery (here in 2026) is considered a legacy product and to my knowledge - there is no Battery "demo" version 4.31. v4.20 was the last.

I have a few libraries from Just Add Drums, the latest ones I got were around September 2025, though I think they’ve been updated since then.

I can still use the sounds since I’ve got the WAVs and can load them into another sampler, I just wanted to try the Battery presets they included.

Anyway, thanks for the clarification, that makes sense. I’m guessing the message might be because I’m on the demo and not the full version. I was mainly hoping to try something like 4.3.1 to see if that was the issue, like with the 4.3 installer I found on the forum.

In that video - that is definitely the most recent version of Battery.

V4.20 dates back to late 2021 and did not have this more modern look to it.

FWIW - you could also consider snagging Komplete Select (Beats Edition) for 99 bucks

Yup, thanks for confirming the version they’re using. I got the DW Collectors kit and some of their “Sound Like” series. I just checked the folders since I remember updating them at some point, and they’re dated 29.09.25.

So yeah, most likely those presets were made with 4.3.1.
