Hi, I thought if you purchased a controller used and provided a copy of the receipt with serial number etc that i could have the software licence key transfered to me. previous owner husband deceased with sold me controller.
is this not the case?
You often can, but you'll need to contact support and ask them to do it.
You can contact support via the links here https://bit.ly/NI_Support_All, or if that's not working correctly you can use this link - https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?_gl=1
If you ask NI support to transfer the device then they most likely will try to contact the estate since generally then transfers require the consent of the previous owner if not done by the owner. Having a receipt will ever hurt and the exact course of actions will be determined by N.I. depending on how they view the situation….
.
In situations where NI Support is asked to transfer because 'buyer' claim that previous owner can not/will not transfer then NI usually check with previous owners prior to transferring HW. In the case where previous owner is deceased and can not respond then based on what Jeremy_NI has written in the past then one possible course of action could be for NI to confirm with the estate when there is a receipt from an estate sale. I doubt though that NI is going to invest any major resources into something like that. As I wrote then the exact course of actions will be determined by N.I. depending on how they view the situation. My guess is that NI often has to reject a transfer but in clear cases where there is an easy way to confirm with 'estate' (e.g. there is a receipt) then NI could possible confirm with estate rather than reject a transfer.
But really , Mike , maybe you ought to contact Support to ask them to clear up the matter sufficiently for you , I am sure that my knowledge on the subject is not great enough…
I've never heard of NI checking with a deceased's estate - is that a new policy ?
