Please, before handing me the standard 'bro it's external mode', be advised that I already know that. Also be advised that I know it's been asked before. I still share e.g. this user's frustration. Why no headphone monitoring in Traktor when set to external mode (in my case, on the Z1 mk2)?
I'd like to know if there is any reason beyond that it's 'supposed' to be that way.
After all, everything else I can re-enable, no? EQ, gain, fx…. but no monitor cueing? Even the Z1's sound card works, inside an aggregate device. So why can't I use its headphone jack for this one thing?
For context (perhaps some clever workaround tips?), my use case is like so:
I'm on MacOS, sending decks C and D to audio reactive software, and decks A/B to main out (or equivalent). I've got an SSL 2+ audio interface (2 ins 4 outs, mono). I'm using BlackHole to route decks C/D to video software (VDMX). An aggregate device handles routing from Traktor.
Video software is, well, video, and the SSL 2+ isn't a controller. So in this scenario there's really no way I can get headphone monitoring?
Best I've come up with so far is to assign a button on the X1 or Z1 to 'Preview'. That way I can at least pre-listen to tracks (from the Z1 headphone jack at that, so it's obviously still available!), but no real cueing. It kinda works for me, but let's call it a has-to-do solution.
