Does Flesh work properly? I'm getting confusing parameter changes

I'm using the Reaktor patch, Flesh. It allows you to specify harmonies and assign them to MIDI notes. When I press a single note that should trigger a chord (with it's corresponding settings), it automatically changes the root values within mono and poly.

To my understanding the Root value should only change of the sequence is playing and if you trigger a different chord with a different root parameter. However, I am pressing the same note+chord so it should remain the same root setting.

For example:

• I press note C once, the root in mono changes to 6.
• I press the same note C again and the root in mono changes to 11.

Question: Is this how it works? Is this a bug?

(I fear this reaktor patch may be too old to get a response) :/

This behavior is actually an intentional part of how FLESH handles its internal sequencing and modulation, though it can certainly feel like a bug if you're trying to play it as a traditional static synthesizer.

The reason the Root value in the Mono or Poly sections changes even when you press the same MIDI note is likely due to one of two features: Harmony Sequences or Modulation Assignments.

1. The Harmony Sequencer (Most Likely)

Each of the 12 Harmony slots (triggered by your MIDI notes) is not just a static "chord." In the Harmony Page, you can record or program a sequence of harmonic changes up to 8 bars long.

• The "Cycle" Effect: If a sequence is active for that slot, pressing the MIDI note (or letting the internal clock run) will advance the sequence to the next step.
• The "Reset" Behavior: Many Reaktor ensembles, including those by Tim Exile, are designed so that a MIDI "Note On" message acts as a trigger for the next event in a series. If you press 'C' and it gives you Root 6 (F#), then press it again and it gives you Root 11 (B), you are likely stepping through a pre-recorded or preset sequence of roots stored in that specific harmony slot.

2. Modulation (The "Modulation" Knob)

Check the four large macro knobs at the bottom of the interface (Spectrum, Character, Length, Modulation).

• If the Modulation knob is turned up, FLESH applies internal LFOs or Envelope Followers to various parameters.
• In the Modulation Page, the "Root" parameter is often a default target. If an LFO is modulating the Root, its value will be different every time you trigger a note depending on where the LFO cycle is at that moment.

3. Snapshot "Morphism"

FLESH uses a system where MIDI notes can trigger snapshots. If you have "Snap via Key" enabled in the Reaktor toolbar or within the ensemble's Master section, your MIDI note might be recalling a snapshot that has a specific "morphed" state or a randomized initialization.

How to stabilize it:

To make the Root stay the same for a specific note:

1. Open the Harmony Page: Click the "Harmony" label at the bottom.
2. Check for Sequences: Look at the slot assigned to your MIDI note (e.g., C). If you see a moving bar or multiple steps highlighted, a sequence is playing. You can clear the sequence or set it to a single step.
3. Zero the Modulation: Turn the Modulation macro knob all the way down (left) to see if the Root value stops jumping. If it does, you know that the Root was being moved by an internal LFO or the sample's envelope.
4. Check the Poly/Mono Root Knobs: Ensure there isn't a "Random" or "LFO" icon activated next to the Root dial inside the synth engines themselves.

Is it a bug?

No, it is a feature! FLESH is marketed as a "performance synth" designed to create "happy accidents" and evolving textures from static loops. It is deliberately designed to be "unstable" so that even a single note press generates movement.
