Transferring music

I have a mac air from 2013 with an old version of traktor I have been using for years. This computer just crashed and I am unable to access over 10K sounds I have collected along with many play lists. I have been backing up using the my passport ultra. I am purchasing traktor 4 pro for my new mac book air running sequuoia 15.6. How do I import the music from my passport drive into traktor 4 pro. Is there a place where I can find detailed instructions/support for this? I have to DJ in 2 days and am freaking out. Thank you!!

It is easy. :-)

You should tell Traktor to watch your entire drive or a specific folder (or folders) in your drive.

1- Go to Preferences (the gear icon in the top right).

2- Navigate to the File Management tab.

3- Under the Music Folders section, click Add.

4- Navigate to and select the folder on your drive (or the entire drive, if contains only music).

Tip: Check the box "Import Music Folders at Startup" if you want Traktor to automatically find and add any new songs you drop into that folder every time you open the app.

5- Close Preferences, then right-click Track Collection in the browser tree and select "Import Music Folders".

You need to backup the folder where you store you music files and ~/Documents/Native Instruments/Traktor x.x.x/

Unless you use iTunes/Music app, then I have no idea where the playlists are stored at.

As long as you don’t mess with its settings Time Machine usually makes copies of all important settings, apps and files within the user folders. As long as your music files live within your user folder (which is default for Apple Music app) they should be included. Traktors files should be too. If you have something on external or network drives this won‘t work - at least out of the box.

Did you also back up the ~/Documents/Native Instruments/Traktor x.x.x/ folder?

Else your Playlist are probably lost.

I don't know if the 2013 MacBook air had an removable ssd, but if yes you might be able to put that into another computer or external case to access your old data.

Morning. Thank you for comments. Very helpful. I am in the process of figuring it out. In the mean time I am running traktor 4 pro now and every time I am scrolling through my tracks a pop up box titled track list with an explanation of how I can drag and drop tracks ect… keeps popping actually blocking my view. I need to disable this so that my view is clear. Has anyone else had this problem and or does anyone know how to remove it. I can’t live with it. Thank you!!

Hi. Never mind. I figured that out. I am currently trying the ssd route to recover music. I have another ? though. Is there a good way to remove duplicate songs from my track list. I can’t seem to figure out a way to do it through the traktor system? Thanks.

Good Morning. I am trying to figure out how to back up my music and traktor pro 4 so that I can’t loose anything including my play lists which I have been unable to recover from an older mac so I don’t want that to happen again. I have a 2014 mac book air and am currently using time machine with an external passport drive. I am struggling to determine how to configure the passport to be sure that it backs up my collection as well as my play lists. Do I have to make sure the external drive backs up my music file as well as my traktor pro 4 file? Right now the music file on the drive seems to be empty? Also, how do I ensure that the play lists come through in some way where I can recover them in the event of an issue and do they come through with names? Thanks.

ok. Thank you for your response. However, a more difficult issue is arising with purchase of traktor 4. I was playing a set and suddenly the tempo bar in deck B went full speed destroying the sound and the tempo bar was stuck! This happened in the middle of a set. Ugh. I had to shut down traktor to get it back to normal. Deck A was still working normally thank god. Then the next morning I was putting a lot of music into my preparation play list and traktor froze and I lost everything. Then this morning I put a song in a deck and it froze again but this time recovered so I just shut traktor and started it again. This never happened with traktor 2 which I had been using for years on an older computer. Has anyone had these problems. It's making me extremely nervous to use the program in public which is the point. Please let me know if anyone has any ideas about what could be happening. Could the software have an issue. It is just traktor that's freezing. Nothing else on my 2024 Mac air is freezing. Thanks!
