Hi everyone,
last week I played a gig and after about an hour the left deck / jog wheel on my Kontrol S4 MK3 stopped working. I noticed that nudging no longer worked, and when I checked, the jog wheel motor was not working either.
Since it was early in the night and there were not many people yet, I restarted the controller and the problem was gone. However, a few hours later some of the LEDs on the left deck went off. Shortly after that, the buttons stopped working as well, and the jog wheel failed again.
What I found interesting was that the display on the left deck was still working at first, but after about a minute it also went completely black. Since it was near the end of the set, I improvised for the remaining tracks.
Today I powered the controller on again and everything seems to be working fine, but I am worried that the issue might happen again.
My assumption is that this could be a hardware-related problem, possibly something related to the power supply or a PCB issue on the left deck. One thing I am not 100% sure about: I think the button LEDs for switching the channels to external input were also off, which would normally be on a different PCB — but I can’t fully trust this observation.
I should also mention that I am an electronics technician, so I am comfortable troubleshooting and repairing hardware myself if necessary. However, before opening the unit, I am looking for known failure points, similar cases, or hints on where to start investigating.
Has anyone experienced something similar or has an idea what the cause could be?
Probably not relevant, but for completeness:
- I was using Channel C with an external input (from a mixer) to have additional microphones
- Traktor Pro version: 3.11.1 (build 17)
- Controller age: ~5 years
- Driver version: 6.0.0.24
