Your (the User's) idea for customizing imported User Loops and One-Shots Libraries

What's good everyone,

I'm in contact with NI about a feature request for User imported libraries and how to make "User Sample Pack Pics" a thing again. They said they will pass this on to development for consideration. They asked if I had more specific ideas, not just "make pics happen please" and I added that it would be nice if we could manage the pictures and everything from the Maschine software internally . Nothing too fancy - just a box where you can drop your User png or jpeg etc. into.

I referenced another specific music production app and how that company handles this. BUT:

Maybe you guys have some more ideas that they can pick up from here.

Would it be better to have a separate system for this? For simplicity reasons perhaps?

Or do you think the way it is handled now should just be updated?

I think that having a separate column in the Maschine software (maybe transferable to Komplete Kontrol?) could be implemented without the developers having to mess with any Library database structures, and would lead to less confusion and / or corruption of your sample collection and it's data inside Maschine.

Let me add that it would be in everybody's interest to keep ideas as simple as possible.

I work with Maschine on a daily basis now. So this matters to me (duh😅)

And reading the Library names off the screen of both PC and Hardware to identify them breaks the workflow for me.

If we could help the devs with these ideas, that would be good simply for kindness reasons.

But it may also just speed up the proccess lol

i like the idea, maybe another "master tag" would be useful and we add/bind the picture there with it, that would be all doable within maschine i guess. Or what was your exact idea how to add the picture and tags? Ohh and of course it should work with komplete kontrol as you said.

Wow, I got more questions than answers…

It's crazy that this has been broken ever since Maschine 3 was released more than 1 year ago, (on a paid upgrade) and it still needs to be passed on for consideration. This has been discussed here a lot, with lots of people asking for a fix so how is something like this not logged as bug/issue? We have a Discord, a Beta and a Forum yet, ideas are being asked directly to single individual users via ticket???? I am honestly baffled…

Honestly, props to you for coming here 👍, sharing this and asking the community what they think, something the company should be doing.

Heres my ideia - Fix it! Both thumbnails and vendor tag issue, start there… at the start.

People out there made websites and apps to make the thumbnail process easy, or one can just duplicate the image folder of an existing expansion and just edit the pics, if it's taking them years to fix simple bugs I rather not have them try to make this fancy and built into Maschine, although obviously that would be ideial.

Proposed Solution: External Visual Asset Handling

Changing the location where Maschine fetches the user's visual elements to a dedicated folder might work. We could allow external content to "skip the line"—special treatment, so to speak.

For example, implementing a drag-and-drop feature like: "DROP MST_artwork HERE" - "DROP MST_logo HERE," etc.

This would eliminate the need for users to know the exact placement of those image files. Dragging and dropping an image onto a button would build the referencing path between the image and the Maschine database.

Naturally, if the original image location is moved, the user would simply need to drag and drop the picture again, which would build the updated path. I can only guess this is how other plugins and apps, like Loopmix, handle asset referencing.

Why This Approach Makes Sense

While Loopmix's search function is nowhere near Maschine's quality for user imports, I think this drag-and-drop feature should be added on top of the existing structure, rather than attempting to bake it deep inside.

This solution prevents users from folder diving or having to mess with internal paths on each operating system, which should benefit both users and the NI support team.

Please keep in mind that I have no programming knowledge, so perhaps I'm just fantasizing here.

I like that, although I don't quite see the advantage of it being in a separate location.

A simpler solution could be - If the folder added to the library has a sub-folder called 'images' with all the pics there, then proceed to use those images in the software for the thumbnail.

This would make it effortless to share sample packs, no dragging things around, no need to memorize folder locations, no issues using external storage with multiple computers or M+ due to the images being in the internal HD, etc…

This is how Maschine already handles audio previews, except the sub-folder is hidden.

User feedback about implementation is important… What good is a new feature that doesn't work as most expect? That happens often… If anything, they need to ask for more.

Id rather complain that feedback is not taken into account as much as it should rather complain we have to give feedback… It's weird to ask individuals, but other than that, its great.
