Why does the screen on the device default to a ugly looking Default Midi Template screen? why not default to the logo when not connected to a daw or KK? At this price point i would have thought there would be more consideration given to this.
Here are 2 alt default templates with a nicer banner
Here are some empty Templates. only keys are colored. no knobs, no buttons.
Please note that the Kontrol S MK3 always has a MIDI template active.
It is a fully functional MIDI 2.0 compliant MIDI controller at all times.
Sure, when connected directly to Kontakt, Komplete Kontrol, or any DAW, it offers additional features on top, but the MIDI template dictates the behaviors of each knob, button, key, touchstrip, wheel, and so on when not directly connected to our software.
Whether that's another piece of software (e.g. a plug-in) or external hardware or both… the point is that Kontrol is functional and working no matter what it's connected to. It would make no sense to display a logo - it displays whatever functionality is active.
The MIDI templates are fully customizable, and can be configured any way you like if the Default settings aren't useful. See here.
