Solution to "Please grant permission to native access to install dependencies"

Hello.

Every time the Native Access application updates it fails with the error,

Please grant permission to native access to install dependencies

Usually I have been able to find and download the newer NTKDaemon and get past this. The last update did not work with this method.

I wanted to pass on this information as I did not find any indication of this solution in any search performed.

Verify the version of Native Access and the NTK. When the error occurs, go to the Help → About Native Access menu.
This will show something like 3.21.0 (#### / 1.26.0) The second number, 1.26.0 is the NTK version that appears to be required for the Native Access application.
What I keep seeing is that this is supposed to install at the same time as Native Access but I have NEVER seen this happen, even the first time I installed. The trick is to realize this Native-Access_2.exe file is a self extracting zip. Open the file using any zip tool like WinZip or 7-zip.
Find the path, $PLUGINSDIR\app-64.7z\resources\daemon\win\.
In this location will be NTKDaemon 1.##.# Setup PC.exe. This file should be the version required for this update.
Extract this file to a location like your TEMP directory and run this. I run this using Run as Administrator as other documents indicate is needed.
After this succeeds run the Native Access install again.

After this the install worked correctly. Now I just have to remember this the next time it updates to save myself the couple of hours I spent cleaning my registry and drives of the old version, checking permissions and reinstalling them several times.

Just a note that your OS is compromised (most likely missing correct Visual C++ redistributables) if you need to perform this extraction as a workaround.

A normal stable OS environment should never require any messing around to manually install the NTK Daemon.

Have never installed NTK manually ever in 20+ years of NI usage

I followed another document to "repair" the Visual C++ files but that didn't help. I play a lot of games that typically use these files and have not had any problems with them.

Ever since the first installation several months ago it has never installed the daemon without doing it manually. I found many references to the error and most of them indicate this error requires the manual installation, however no one ever indicated how to find the correct version you need to install.

No option to "repair" these libraries that I am aware of. Only move them forward.

Can tell you without question that if you have to resort to this much trouble with NTK Daemon - your machine is messed up.

For the record - this is what I see on my Windows 10 DAW for Visual C++ libraries as of this moment:

If you do not see the same versions - chances are very high that you will continue to have issues.

There is no single "correct" version because all of those libraries are used as needed by different programs that were developed in Visual C++ at different times using different versions of the core libraries. That's why you see some of those dating way back to 2005. In all likelihood something got deleted or unlinked that's causing your problems when NTK Daemon can't find it or load it.

Sorry, but that is simply not correct. If I had a problem with the libraries then it would not install correctly manually either. I have all those libraries and have been having no other problems with old or new software. There is nothing wrong with these.

There is any number of references to repairing the Visual C++ libraries online, basically when you go to control panel to uninstall there is a pop up that lets you repair instead of uninstall.

It works perfectly fine as long as I get the correct version of the NTKDaemon installed for the Native Access version. This is the point of the post.

The link that Native Instruments support provided in response to this issue goes to

release_1.25.0.0_NTK_DaemonFullInstaller_Win.zip

But this is the one I used that did not allow the install to work. After installing

NTKDaemon 1.26.0 Setup PC.exe

from inside the self extracting zip of the Native-Access_2.exe file as described, then the Native Access install will work correctly.

I did computer support for over 25 years and I did investigate this issue very thoroughly before finding this solution.

While your solution works - it is by far - not the way this works (or ever has worked) for 99.99% of the rest of us.

That said - if you want to accept the fact that your OS install is perfect and hacking this thing into place manually and standalone - is normal - then I can't stop ya.
