Hopefully this will mean some updates to the software, too?
mx2 support got added with Traktor 4.3 which brings nothing new to the table.
We also got an active mx2 thread here:
The software would definitely need updates for this controller to be on par with other entry level units. Not the biggest fan of external power being needed on an entry level as well.
hopefully a 4 channel version will be coming soon. been holding off from switching from 2 X1's and djm 750 mk2. would love to finally go fully digital
10 years old driver as the other products😄 (you have to correct the mistake) my opinion on mx2: https://medium.com/@ugotorresi /traktor-mx2-first-impression-45540f762d1b
S2 MK3 = 269eu…. MX2 = 395eu
This MX2 is clearly designed for home use and small gatherings with friends, similar to the FLX4 or DDJ400, and compared to those, it is undoubtedly the most feature-rich. This controller is not suitable for me, but I recognize that it is a great product in its niche. The rest of the range with 4 channels, XLR, etc. will surely arrive in the coming months.
Well MX2 is a solid successor to S2 Mk3. Follows the new NI design language, adds back classic FX controls and doesn't leave anything essential from S2 Mk3 behind. Would be a neat little entry level controller. But there is one really huge disappointment: This thing needs mains power! Really NI? How on earth someone could have this silly idea? That is a real dealbreaker. Especially as it comes with USB-C which can deliver more energy than USB-A/B in theory. And compared to Komplete Kontrol S Mk3 series the power supply doesn't even is an USB-C port. This at least had enabled using a power bank on the go. And didn't NI told us last year they choose USB-B on Z1 Mk2 because of its more solid connection?
Could have been such a nice little controller to take with me. But the missing ability to run it on bus power is ridiculous. If it is for the audio interface: Traktor Audio 10 Mk2 has 5 stereo outputs and not just 2 like MX2 and worked on bus power. S2 Mk3 is just dimming its lighting if it is run on bus power and only needs a power supply for brighter lighting - or charging a connected iPad.
ups……… You're right, I find it hard to believe in a controller of that range.
Reviewers said the the power is required because of the louder headphone out which has been the issue with S2 Mk3. I don't mind connecting a power supply but it will definitelly turn down some DJs. The layout of controls is perfect though - better than every other entry level controller out there. I'm definitelly selling my S2 Mk2 and buying MX2 soon.
this. you're absolutely right about the main power and this weird usb change of mind!
I I just have to say that whoever is the marketing team for NI needs to really rethink what they’re doing. The slogan “freedom from day one“ with a device that needs to be plugged into power and needs to be plugged into a laptop, with no battery or speaker on board is not freedom from day one. Alpha Theta, Denon, and Newmark have controllers that are actually standalone, have battery and speakers on board. Another thing, I don’t know who thought it was a great idea toto usethe shopping cart in the ad, but in America, that’s a sign of poverty, at least in America because The only people who use shopping carts are the homeless. It’s actually illegal in every state to shopping carts from any parking lot. TThis marketing campaign from a branding perspective is a LoL
As I said neat little controller and if the power issue is no issue for you, you will surely have fun with it. I know that they say it is because of the headphones. But I cannot remember that there were similar complaints about Traktor Audio 6, Audio 10, Z1 (Mk1&Mk2), S3, older S2 and S4 models. All of them can run bus powered and have headphone sockets. Especially because USB-C is able to deliver more energy (sure not every computer can do this) there should have been a way to make the power adapter at least optional. Or at least with the limitation that the headphone amplifier doesn't run on full power if the device is only powered via USB. And a proprietary barrel plug instead of USB-C for power in 2025 is an interesting choice. Especially as NI showed with Komplete Kontrol S series MK3 that they can do better. This leaves the impression that the device just has an USB-C plug and was planned with USB-B in earlier stages.
Uff, I hope @Quade will not see your post.
Just take a peak at this thread:
Have to admit in 2022 I wasn't that active here in the community. Did not know that thread till now. Have to remove S3 from that list. But a Z1 Mk2 has to power headphones too and works nicely with bus power.
Not as much bright LEDs though. And audio card sucks in Z1.
